China will continue to import Iranian oil: official

Vienna: China said Friday it would import Iranian oil in defiance of US sanctions on Tehran, a day before US and Chinese leaders are to meet to try to resolve thorny trade disputes.

“We reject the unilateral imposition of sanctions,” said Fu Cong, Director General of the Chinese Foreign Ministry´s Department of Arms Control. The US, which is trying to force Iran to renegotiate an agreement limiting its nuclear programme, at the end of May tightened sanctions to include a full ban on Iran´s exports of oil.

“For us energy security is important and the importation of oil is important to Chinese energy security and also to the livelihood of the people,” said Cong.

In May only one ship with Iran oil left for China (reached on June 20).

In June also only two ships with Iranian oil left for China and will reach in July.


In Comparison, in March, 14 ships with oil left Iran for China and in February it was 12.

So a huge huge fall.

Total Iranian oil exports from May25-June 25 was 300,000 bpd out of which we know 110,000 bpd went to Syria and 70,000 to Afghanistan (Afghans only ones to get US waivers).

You look pretty desperate? Care to share your mighty Indian minister claim defy of US sanction? Chinese of cos are smart. They are applying pressure on Iranian side to further getting a good price. You cant expect Chinese to import Iranian oil if they are only giving 10-20% discount compare to market price? The reduction of Iranian oil import is a strategy to push Iranian in giving a massive discount like 40- 50 percent off from market rate. If Iranian can fulfill that massive import of oil will go underway to China.

Buss, stop bullshiting. We only cut by 50% it was 250K bpd in May, we bought 700k bpd in April before sanctions because of stockpilling and 500k bpd in March.
