China Wants to Be Pakistan's New Best Friend — But Will It Backfire?

jeopardize any attempts by world powers to mitigate risks from Iran's nuclear buildup. China has strongly embraced Pakistan, despite knowing fully well that Pakistan and its neighbors are infested with terrorists affiliated to Al Qaeda and their cross-country brethren like Uighur and Chechen extremists.

This piece could only have come out of a smelly, stinking, smouldering indian arse. What the **** has Pak China relations to do with Iran nuclear program, which by the way has been (that is until uncle sam put his foot on indias tail) a great friend. The best use of this post/article would be to print it on a 132 column paper 100 times, roll them up together and shove it up the writers arse.

Chinese are not muslim, and are not even people of the book. Therefore they can never be considered friends of any islamic republic.

They are fooling themselves into thinking the middle east can ever lessen their interdependance with East Asian and Western markets.

Better to improve ties with their racial/cultural kin: Japanese and Koreans.

Political interests - and geopolitical needs - always defeat cultural discrepancies. At least most of the time. Again, I find nothing in common with Muslims at all, but I recognize that a pro-China Pakistan and Iran are invaluable to PRC interests.

The title is as intellectually lazy as the content. . . Nothing new presented either

China vocally acknowledged the role of religious delegation sent by Islamabad to calm nerves and negotiate settlement over Xianjing issue and that is since 2008.

It is what it is - both are neighbours and both have friendly ties since mid 20th century. It's foolish for the author to think or imply Pakistan would allow its soil to be used in hostile manner against China (and vice versa)

Call the friendship whatever you want to call it - we will continue cooperation with them in economic and defence matters.

China and Pakistan are best friends, whats new about that?

not going to happen unless India acknowledge the West's only role in Asia is a economic one and NOT a military one. When that happens and India sees the West as much a threat as China does now, then friendship.

Until then, China and India cannot be friends, because no common foe and interests.

Dude...It is Pakistan who has allowed West Military to operate and allow its people to be used in South Asia since more than 40 years...When did you last time see US military has a foot hold in India? Purchasing military equipment and doing business does not always turn out to be supporting US involvement in South Asia...

There are no real friend in this Pak-China deal. They are doing Pak-Chinese thing because of India.

US is backing off in Pakistan. We should have minimal present in PAK after we pulled out from Afghanistan in 2014. China will take our place as military partner of Pakistan. However, this is one boat Chinese need to tread carefully.

Pulling in with Pak will almost definitely drag out the relationship with India. You cannot have a good relationship with Pakistan and India at the same time. You either go neutral (which by not helping Pakistan much) or go full blown hostile (By totally devoted to Pakistan) It's ok presently as US is the one helping out PAK. India don't need to like US as they have a Russian big brother. But with US out and China filled in. Things will be different.

Another point being China is a non-Muslim country. Muslim country tend to have more troubled past (The old say, a united Muslim will take over the world) and in the end, any Muslim country will only have true friend in other Muslim country. In the end, either China will get burn by Pakistan , or China will then go on the Muslim radar. Then what you can do is expect terrorist attack in Chinese soil. Don't forget we got the terrorist attack by pissing off the wrong fraction of Muslim Extremist. Unless China help both side of Muslim brotherhood (Shia and Sunni) or China become Muslim themselves. Those terrorist group will come after China. Remember they hate Infidel, which is non-believer. Chinese would also counted as Infidel in their eyes. Only they aren't getting into the spotlight yet.

What I think was, China need to think twice to go in messing the game with a Muslim nation

China hasn't gone bombing around the world for oil profit and hegemony so I think they should be just fine; they're making inroads into Africa to consolidate and find market for the resources it needs

Investing and providing soft credit to developing countries is their M.O. Not occupying countries and installing puppets.

[/B]China has got its mind made up to embark on a comprehensive geopolitical expansion mode.

??? Are you just jealous or getting personal? India is also infested with terrorism. In this case, the terrorists are hindus vs. the Islamists. Care to see history on Shiv Sena, RSS, BJP?????? brutally killed hundreds of thousands of people over years, raped thousands of women and killed children....families inside their homes sleeping?
The whole region, India, Pakistan and Afghanistan is infested with terrorism. You guys do it to each other and play innocent.

Actually, China did go around and bomb other people for profit or interest of their own, just not for oil and nothing you can see because of censorship.

One word come to mind, Myanmar

Dude, in case you have not see this. China now is like US pre-WW2.

Before WW2, we don't even want to go into the war. We are doing exactly what the Chinese do now, provide soft credit and making friends.

Before WW2, you don't even see the problem in US with regarding the Muslim and the Jews.

When China have their hand deep in Muslim Country, they will try and do what we do now, again, to protect their interest. Do you even think if China invest enough in the Middle East, they will left you guys alone with their investment?? NO.

It's stupid and childish for a muslim country to think China is a true friend, they are indeed businessmen only and vice versa, the stuff you see we do, you can mark my word you will see Chinese keep up more and more in line with us. When money is involved, there are no true friend, only interested. By then your kind and the extremist will cry, China the Hegemony.

You cannot play the world game without being greed and wanted to be a "World leader" this is what drive this world

give the details and the link to back up your accusations

I dont know what is the "we" that you refer to: HK, Sweden, UK. USA or elsewhere

Before WW2, you don't even see the problem in US with regarding the Muslim and the Jews.

You have to go back to the long list of wars and military engagement to locate usa's problems before its conflicts with Muslims

When China have their hand deep in Muslim Country, they will try and do what we do now, again, to protect their interest. Do you even think if China invest enough in the Middle East, they will left you guys alone with their investment?? NO.

that is a blatant badmouthing piece of writing;. a complete projection out of your personal prejudices on China

are you enlisted for the "neo-colonialization" of China campaign? How many military outposts in the world that China has to be labelled as "hegemony"?

You cannot play the world game without being greed and wanted to be a "World leader" this is what drive this world

that is an imperialistic american and western mindset! you well copy it 100% within a HK loser's mind

you bring up some valid points; your last line is on point

Chinese tend to be more strategic long-term thinkers whereas US (foreign) policy as of late seems to be very day-to-day, at least on the outside

Yeah, you need to be in it to win it when you come down to the world game.

If China cannot safe guard their interest overseas WHEN they started investing outward. It would mean nothing to them if they cannot safeguard the future investment.

When one country start developing, it first secure their economic sector, then improve the Military to secure those interest. And thus making friends in any region, but with friend, it also comes with enemies.

I don't think it's sound to say China currently done enough to get in those extremist group radar. But with increased investment, they most definitely wanted a bigger pie in middle east. Then they will get in their radar by either no doing enough for them or doing too much for group that they hate.

If the benefits trickle down to the people rather than just individual stakeholders/figure-men then perhaps the result would differ
