What goes around , comes around. The stalemate will either continue or non-proliferation organizations will fall apart. I dont think there is any incentive on India's part or western powers to provide china with latest missile tech. Though china might have a advanced missile program but still they would need MTCR to legitimately trade in technology without being labelled as proliferator.

In a guarded response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's comments that India has a "whole lot of problems" with China, Beijing today said it will be in dialogue with New Delhi to find a "fair, sensible and mutually acceptable solution" to the contentious issues.

"We have noted the relevant report. China-India relationship is in a generally good state," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei told PTI here in response to questions on Modi's interview to a private TV news channel.

"Common interests between the two countries far outweigh their differences. The Chinese side will work with the Indian side to steer the bilateral relations, and deepen cooperation in different fields," Hong said.

"As for problems in the bilateral relations, the Chinese side will stay in communication and dialogue with the Indian side to find a fair, sensible and mutually acceptable solution," he said, referring to Modi's remarks.

Modi had said that "We have an ongoing dialogue with China and it should continue to happen. We don't have one problem with China, we have a whole lot of problems pending with China. There are so many issues."

On India getting the membership of Missile Technology Control Regime (MTCR) ahead of China, Hong said, "we have noted that some of the multilateral export control regimes have changed in one way or another. With that in mind, China is assessing the effectiveness of the MTCR in safeguarding the international non-proliferation regime."

China is yet to be inducted into the 34-member MTCR regime. India became 35th member yesterday.

Reports say China, which blocked India's membership in the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG), is lobbying to become member of the MTCR group.

The MTCR restricts the proliferation of missiles, rocket systems, unmanned air vehicles, or drones, and the technology for systems capable of carrying a payload of 500 kilograms for at least 300 kms

Isn't that too much of a restriction? Look at the Brahmos, which has a pitiful 290 km range, because of MTCR restrictions.

In comparison, even standard cruise missiles have a range of over 1000+ km.

Not to mention if we sign the MTCR, we won't be able to transfer long range missile technology to Pakistan anymore. Or to anyone anymore.

Which would make one country very happy (India), but not so great for us.

You are wrong, dear sir.
MTCR is only granted to great powers.
China is not a super power yet.
Our proud MTCR membership shows international recognition of our super strength!

Reported for trolling and useless posts.

Sarcasm is against the rules.

I am glad that China is not part of it. Otherwise how China would be able to sell shit load of CH-3, CH-4, YL-1 military drones all over the world?

Then please do let us know why china has applied for MTCR membership.

The Brahmos has a software limited restriction in range. And that software was written in India. :D

The Brahmos has a 290Km range while flying in a lo-lo profile. And it has the same range in hi-hi and hi-lo profile. What does that tell you?

Not to mention if we sign the MTCR, we won't be able to transfer long range missile technology to Pakistan anymore. Or to anyone anymore.

You shouldn't be doing that anyway, that's why China isn't getting in.

IDK. But as far as I am concerned, export restrictions are not good for business, especially for military industries. Maybe China has sold enough those and can't keep up the production? :cheesy:

What, you mean back in 2004 when we were not one of the biggest military exporters on the planet?

Back when we actually needed to buy drones?

Nowadays we are selling our armed drones all over the world, see the footage of the Iraqi government using Chinese drones to hit ISIS positions.

All the MTCR will do now, is restrict our missile exports to a pitiful 290 km range like Brahmos.

Restricting China's missile exports (e.g. to Pakistan) would be a dream for India, but it doesn't help us at all.

For most of Indians, the only significance of their newly acquired MTCR membership is "getting even with China“, they really don't care anything else. A huge country with a "Little Kingdom Mentality", hopeless.

You got it wrong, the Brahmos range is 290km because india didnt have MTCR membership. MTCR members cannot trade more that 300KM range technology with non MTCR members. Now that India is into MTCR it can get technology transfer above 300km range and 600 kg payload. For some reason everyone on this forum got it wrong as few just make up their own theories

Oh god...is that you Kejriwal?!!
You are here as well, trolling?!!

Coming to topic, Modi Ji made himself pretty clear in his interview.
It will be interesting few years for India and China relations.

Have we reached a pivot where China will force India to make up it's mind and go completely against Chinese interests wherever it can?

Ok , my question still remains the same. Why does china want to join MTCR if it is going to loses all the advantages you have mentioned so far. Why not withdraw the appln and move ahead.

China has not acknowledged the sale of more than 300 km range of any missiles, even to countries like Pakistan. Why?

Maybe they simply forgot? :partay:

Back then in 2004 when China applied, China was in dawn of upgrading its aged missile arsenals and in need of some additional technologies to assist its own indigenous effort. China's bid was rejected. Since then China has realized that all the military high tech transfers have string attached, and the core technologies would never be transferred, so they just went back to drawing boards and worked their ars out for the past 10 years. Now as you can see, China has become a major players in high tech arms export market. While Made-in-China armed drones are flying all over the world, India has yet to got its own armed drone off the ground. India is still on the receiving end of arms trade, and is not very efficient even in buying.

You see, this MTRC membership is not as important to China as it to India. It may be a full course dinner for India, but it is merely a dessert for China.

I hope India can expedite its military industries with this MTRC membership that you guys are so proud of.
