China Vice premier to visit Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan government has announced the visit of the Vice Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, Zhang Dejiang who will be on an official visit in the country from June 10-12.

Mr. Dejiang was an alternate member of the 14th CPC Central Committee and a member of the 15th CPC Central Committee. He was also a member of the Politburo of the 16th CPC Central Committee and Secretary of the CPC Guangdong Provincial Party Committee.

He is currently a member of the Politburo of the 17th CPC Central Committee as well as being the Vice – Premier of the State Council.

During his visit, the Vice Premier of China will call on President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Prime Minister D.M Jayaratne and Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa. The delegation from China will consist of 30 members.

China at present is one of Sri Lanka biggest allies and has funded several development projects in the country.
