China unveils [side-by-side] two seat design for stealth plane based on J-20 fighter

“As the new generation aircraft with capabilities of stealth and supersonic cruise, the new platform also needs to command drones, other fighter jets, and even ground-based rocket launchers, as well as surface warships and submarines, making it a small early-warning aircraft,” it said.

A military insider said the new plane would be equipped with defensive air-to-air weapons, but would not be used as a bomber, contrary to mainland media reports.

Tandem seat J-20 - not going to happen. It completely alters the aerodynamics of the current design. May as well go for a completely new design.

The paper cited in the Minnie Chan article is related to the FC-31 ... not the JH-XX and definitely not the J-20. With that being said, a twin seater J-20 is possible.

The article is probably talking about the JH-XX and likening it to a side-by-side twin seat J-20.

This would imply that JH-XX might not be an actual bomber but rather an early warning / target tracking command center.

Is JH-XX a CAC project? If there has not been any confirmation so far, maybe this article is the first clue that JH-XX is a CAC project.
