15 years ago there was no trouble in Xinjiang, you are just a brainwashed American, that's it. If China hasn't assimilated them after 70 years, it means China has no intention doing so.
People in Soviet Central Asian countries all have Russian style names and speak Russian, while in China's Xinjiang no Uighurs have Chinese names and the majority can not speak Chinese. So it's very obvious that China had never intended to do that, otherwise Mao's cultural revolution can finish all minorities once and for all.

Yes, they were oppressed, that's why we can see the difference. If you have to use the word "oppressed" let me tell you what I saw in US, all minorities are oppressed more or less in US.

Because China arbitrarily locks up large numbers of the population in their "re-education centers", and they force feed their propaganda on the population, administer torture and do not allow for any dissenting views. You don't think this is oppression? You think this is normal?

Also, I have seen photos of government officials visiting and sleeping over the homes of Uighur families. Once again, they have no idea how creepy they are.

That is a photo of a school, but that doesn't prove the camps do not exist, which they do.

Maybe not one million like what the Western media is claiming. But I would believe 100,000 to 500,000.

Ask yourself why Uighurs are not allowed to ever dissent or voice any opinion contrary to what the government says?

Black Americans complain about racism and the US government all the time. But Uighurs and Tibetans are expected to pretend they are part of a big happy Chinese family? LOL It is so obvious why the Chinese government prevents them from expressing their views.

Yes, I went 15 years ago. I have also been to Tibet, 2 years ago. Tibet is also oppressed. Soldiers everywhere, Chinese flags hanging everywhere to demonstrate control. It's not like the US, where individual citizens fly the flag out of pride. In Tibet, the Chinese government hangs 20 flags on each building. It is obnoxious. But of course, perhaps to people from China where obnoxious behavior is the norm, it's normal.
