You are correct, India should not join OBOR as it has nothing to offer. However, if China is willing to let Indian workers to work in their factories so they can send back remittance, than India has something to gain.

only in your dreams we are not dependent on the remmitences only as we are a internal based economy where major share comes from inernal trade but yes foriegn remittence is a major part of foriegn cirrency reserves here is a chart

There are more reasons to that- India wants an excuse to stop Chinese imports like steel and finished goods- and increase Its own manufacturing- like recently it was announced steel production to be raised to 3 times the current level by 2025-

China is the largest producer of steel- so allowing Chinese to invest India would have to buy Chinese steel- also without the market of India such highly costly Infrastructure project like OBOR doesn't have much future- especially since the markets in west are also becoming increasingly conservative- At best it provides connectivity and people to people contact-

It's through these remittance that Indians inside India has consumption power. And these consumption power drive the Indian economy. If you remove remittance, India will have much less consumption power.
