Chinese President Xi Jinping yesterday vowed to provide all possible assistance to Sri Lanka in its endeavour to strengthen national security by wiping out the scourge of terrorism.

The Chinese President made this vow during a meeting with Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena at Presidential Palace yesterday.

He said that China is always ready to go hand in hand with Sri Lanka which is recovering after effectively facing the challenge of terrorism adding that the Chinese government will provide any assistance to Sri Lanka at any time.

President Xi Jinping while condemning the Easter Sunday attacks on Sri Lanka expressed his condolence to the families who were affected by the attacks. He said that he is against any form of terrorism in any part of the country.

He also said the Chinese government has taken steps to provide a grant of Rs 2600 million for Security Forces during this emergency situation on a request of President Maithripala Sirisena

The Chinese President has also agreed to immediately release 100 jeeps costing Rs. 1500 million and many other equipment to the Sri Lanka Police Department.

China assures assistance to eradicate terrorism in Sri Lanka

May 14, Beijing: Chinese President Xi Jinping has assured his Sri Lankan counterpart President Maithripala Sirisena that his government will give every assistance to eradicate terrorism from Sri Lanka and ensure the security of the island nation.

Sri Lankan President Maithripala Sirisena, who is in Beijing to attend the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations, met President Xi for an official discussion Tuesday (14) at the President's House.

Expressing China's strong condemnation of recent terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka, the Chinese President emphasized that he strongly condemns brutal terrorism wherever in the world.

President Xi said China is ready to stand alongside the Sri Lankan government and people, support Sri Lanka in combating terrorism, and help the country enhance its counter-terrorism capacity building to safeguard national security and stability.

"China stands ready to work with Sri Lanka to constantly push forward their strategic cooperative partnership that features sincere mutual help and long-term friendship," President Xi said.

He called on the two sides to maintain regular high-level communication, firmly grasp the general direction of friendly cooperation, and staunchly support each other.

The President also discussed with the Chinese President several special issues on the April 21 attack including the steps taken following the attacks as well as the new security arrangements in Sri Lanka.

The two countries discussed the strengthening of the cooperation between the security forces and the expansion of information exchange between intelligence agencies.

The Sri Lankan President also said that Sri Lanka does not have the necessary technical equipment or the knowledge to curb the terrorism, as well as to prevent spreading falsehoods through internet and social websites, and to identify those who sow terrorism and commit such crimes.

President Xi agreed to provide urgent assistance to Sri Lanka to obtain the necessary equipment and technology and send a special Chinese delegation to look into the matter. He called for deepening security law enforcement cooperation and jointly addressing non-traditional security threats including terrorism.

On the request of Sri Lankan President, the Chinese government has taken steps to provide a financial donation of Rs. 2.6 billion to Sri Lanka for the activities of Security Forces necessitated due to the emergency arose after the Easter Sunday suicide bombings.

The Chinese President has also agreed to provide 100 jeeps worth Rs. 1.5 billion and other facilities to the Sri Lanka Police Department.

The two leaders discussed the progress of the development projects that are being implemented with the Chinese loan assistance and the President Sirisena said it is his hope to expeditiously complete the work on these development projects.

They also discussed the progress of the construction of the kidney hospital in Polonnaruwa being built under the Chinese assistance.

President Xi appreciated Sri Lanka's continued support as a true friend of China.

Recalling the drug eradication program launched by President Sirisena, the Chinese President expressed confidence that Sri Lanka can overcome this challenge.

The two countries should steadily advance the joint construction of the Belt and Road, promote cooperation in major projects, and accelerate livelihood projects to benefit the people of Sri Lanka, Xi said.

Following the meeting between the two heads of state, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on cooperation between the security forces of the two countries was signed.

Ministers Thalatha Atukorala and Daya Gamage also participated in the discussions

I have no doubt chinese have the best surveillance equipment and monitoring & tracking software, especially when it comes to spying on your own citizens. :D

Hope those new gears can help with hunting down the terrorist bastards. It is the 21st century and one has to adopt the new technology. No matter how hard you try to spin a yarn, Chinese has successfully maintain the stability of a large nation which provides fertile ground for growth of prosperity.

And I am not denying it.

I am only commenting on the "price" for that security and how many nations are willing to pay that.
