BEIJING, March 5 (Xinhua) -- China will keep the exchange rate of yuan "basically stable" at an "appropriate and balanced" level while further promoting the use of the Chinese currency in cross-border trade, Premier Wen Jiabao said Friday.

The country will gradually develop overseas financial activities involving yuan, Wen said at the opening of the annual session of the National People's Congress (NPC).

China will also continue to improve the mechanism for setting the yuan exchange rate, said Wen.

China launched pilot yuan settlements in cross-border trade in July last year in its eastern economic hub Shanghai and four cities in south Guangdong Province, namely Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Dongguan.

I really like this old man, wen is a good PM can be comparable to Zhou En Lai

. . .
I may think slightly differently about the role of China's premier Wen. He should crack down or deal with corruption with harsher measures for Chinese people. Why should he be busy meeting poor families here or there while the rats are taking millions away?

So he won't rock the boat too much too quickly, there's only that much he can do without making too many enemies, senior politicians' children engage in 'successful' business ventures etc etc are hard to change.

.
Not yet, until he can make top leaders bank account/properties open and transparent. :bounce:

No need to ask more... he is doing just fine for China and Chinese should be obliged for his role.

. .
No doubt if people have their say he would get elected again, but seems there is a two term limit.
