ANI - Thursday 6 September 2012
Tokyo, Sept 6 (ANI): Chinese police is expected to release two men suspected of attacking the Japanese ambassador's car in Beijing, sources have revealed.
Beijing public security officials held a 23-year-old man from Hebei Province and a 25-year-old man from Heilongjiang Province on Tuesday.
According to the Japan Times, the men have been held under China's Public Security Control Law, which grants police the authority to hold suspects up to 15 days and fine them up to 1,000 Yuan.
The report said that Japanese Embassy officials revealed the Beijing Public Security Bureau indicated it has decided to hold the two suspects in jail for five days, but won't seek criminal prosecution, citing the minor nature of the offense.
Ambassador Uichiro Niwa's car was attacked in Beijing on August 28 while he was returning to the embassy.
A man, believed to be a Chinese national, got out of the BMW from the front passenger side, took a Japanese flag from the ambassador's car and ran away.
