China's Prime Minister Li Keqiang has said the country is keen to build a high-speed railway in the Baltic Sea area, Xinhua News Agency has reported.
Mr Li made the announcement while attending the fourth leaders’ meeting of China and Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries in Suzhou.
After talks with Estonian prime minister Taavi Roivas, Li urged swift negotiations between China's National Development and Reform Commission and the Pan-Baltic Sea Railway Union.
He also called for the promotion of more Chinese high speed railway and infrastructure projects in Eastern Europe.
The China-CEE Summit is a meeting held to promote ties between China and sixteen Eastern European countries including Estonia, Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia.
The Warsaw Business Journal reports that Poland's president Andrzej Duda will sign a memorandum with China during his visit to the summit. The deal will see the construction of a nuclear plant in the country.
