China temporarily bans Wildlife trade

This needs to be a permanent ban. Hopefully this crisis will force the entire nation to socially ostracize and punish those who are engaged in the trade and consumption of wildlife.

Yes. This eating of anything that moves seems to have caused alot of lives in China and even other countries abroad. Seems it's mostly prevalent in southern Chinese cities though The government should have long taken measures to ban this and enforce the ban. How many more thousands/millions of people should have died before they took action? This is something they should have done longggg ago looking at past history casualties and bad image/publicity for the country.

Terrible....i'm amazed the government in China after all this hadn't taken measures to stop all this. It's even more shocking that they are just temporarily banning this practice instead of permanently. It seems they will remove the temporary and people forget about it and it will be business as usual. lol

China has a remarkable invulnerability to global opinion and the Chinese people have a remarkable inability to sense how terrible their reputations are in the eyes of others, so I think image control will not be a major variable in banning these habits. My only hope is that the economic loss from the virus outbreak will force the government to finally make the decisive move to end the eating of wildlife that can pass zoonotic diseases and also significantly upgrade the sanitation standards throughout their entire food production/distribution industry.

Becos it will not stop the epidemic in future too. Source of coronavirus is not from wildlife. More likely plant and used as biological weapon to attack China.

It's called being powerful. When you're a powerful country you can do whatever you want and anyone who doesn't like it can go:nana:themselves. You're American, that shouldn't be strange to you.

.
Assuming eating certain types of animals goes a long way back in history in Central and Southern parts of China and no record found of outbreak why only in recent times? In South East Asia people even eat all kinds of different animals in raw or living state that probably also have a long history.

The difference is that the US has a powerful global media presence, in fact, domination. So it easily guides global opinion. China on the other hand, has zero soft power, so it's apparent lack of concern over its image is extremely damaging.

"He was insulted, humiliated just because he was Chinese"

News 1 reports that a 13-year-old Chinese boy was reduced to tears after a group of racists hurled slurs at him about the Coronavirus.

On Saturday, Francesco Lin was due to play football in his local team ASD Cesano Boscone Idrostar – in a province of Milan.

During the second half of the first match of the season, the boy was seen crying. His football team released a statement on Facebook, stating that the reason for the young boy’s distress was due to racism.

“He wasn’t hurt, he wasn’t replaced. He was insulted, humiliated just because he was Chinese, because you don’t know it but today it works like this,” the post reads.

True, but for all the US's "soft power" it is completely incapable of curtailing, let alone halting, China's rise. Tomorrow Britain will deliver another of its many betrayals to America and grant Huawei access to its 5G network. And for all China's inability to monopolize global public opinion it still gets its way in all the world's halls of power, where decisions that matter are made.

Global public opinion is irrelevant. The chimps can think whatever they like, their masters will always make the decisions that serve China's interests - not out of any love for China, but because that's what lines their pockets. America is more than welcome to its domination of public opinion, let's see what it gets them.

You're counting your chickens before they roost. It's not a foregone conclusion that China will become the indisputable superpower. The US has only recently made a decisive break with prior policy and is now waging a massive disinformation campaign to mar China's reputation. Public opinion of China has soured the world over, and particularly in the West and also increasingly in the Muslim world. That will endanger China's room to maneuver.

One of the biggest reasons for wildlife poaching is also Chinese eating habits and their belief in hocus pocus Chinese medicine. They must eat tiger testicles and elephant pu$$y to increase sexual vigor. A lot of tigers around the world and other exotic animals are killed and illegally traded that end up in China and other east Asian countries for this same reason.

The majority of Chinese do not consume these items. The problem is that the population is so massive that even if a small minority does, it is still a huge market.

Majority of them may not eat wildlife meat but a looot of them take Chinese medicine which have these ingredients. And that's a cause of illegal wildlife trade.

As if opinion about US goes up? In fact, world opinion about American nosedive too with Trump era. Japan comes closer to China and you shall know why.

Majority of Chinese medicine(99%) in fact comes from plant.

Maybe but they use wild animal parts and extracts also.

The problem is that China has 1.4 billion people. So even if 1% acts like shithead, you are talking about at least 14 million people which is a big market still. If China was the size of Thailand, all this wouldn't matter.

Most of the world may not like American foreign policy, but they still admire the US and aspire to things American.

You can't say the same about China. Ask most people around the world what they think of when they think China, it's repressive evil government, crappy cheap products (even though this is changing), weird people eating disgusting things. I guess it doesn't matter to you like it doesn't matter to most Chinese what others think because they lack social skills and situational awareness.

Compare that to S. Korea, which has 1/30th of China's population. S. Korea is loved by a lot of people around the world because of its tremendous soft power. China is pathetic in comparison.
