vish, i must say it is not unjust for CCP, it is not CCP banned public opinions, of course in some sensitive issues, i think why most foreigners do not know a real china, the reason is most of you do not know chinese. if you can browse chinese forum and bbs, so you will find china is more opening than you imaged.

I agree with you Liuyong (I hope I spelled your name correctly) that PRC is probably more open than what we make it out to be.

But as compared to democracies like France, UK, USA, Pakistan, and India there is much less transparency and much more information control.

You know,CCP leaders still claim communism,though they did Capitalism,but they claimed it's another kind of socialism.
Before reform,no one can lost their jobs,now many lost.Before reform,education is free,now,people cost much money for their sons or daughters to education.I can post many things

you are right, but i think we should analysize a thing more objectively.
because we know although you would never lost your job and had a free education and house, but that is lower efficiency. since reforming 1978,china take an openning policy to outside and market economy, so we have today's prosperity. yeah ,as you say ,there still many questions to be solved in our country, but i do not think reforming is a fault. and i believe we can solve those questions in the process of development, and we can promote political reforming step by step, i believe it.

yeah ,you spell my name right,thank you, i think this view is more objective to you and to china, it is clear that there are many things to do for china to be a modern and democratic country, and china is always do that by her style, you know we hate which called "color revolution", we want to construct a democratic and modern country by ourslves, and i think this issue is more complex than we imaged, if you have not been to chinese, if you do not try to contact with common chinese people , i believe perhaps you will not understand it easily.
for example, western always criticise CCP's centralization of state power, but in the rescue of earthquake, i think CCP and PLA is efficient, although we still criticise CCP and PLA at many circumstance many times as you, but this time ,we chinese still be moved by CCP and PLA. so i think nobody can deny CCP do her best for the development of china, however ,there are still more things can be done better.

The response of the Chinese authorities has been superb.

Dear ddrbdgzy,many Chinese think before 1978,our economy is not good,but this is not fact.
Before 1978,China's economy was mainly heavy industry,after 1978,mainly light industry,you know it is different.
You can read Maurice Meisner's book,you will how Chairman Mao made a poor and weak country became a industrial country(the sixth industrial country)
