Tacitly acknowledging the withdrawal of its troops from Depsang Valley in Ladakh, China on Monday said the “stand off incident” with India was resolved through “fruitful consultations”, keeping the larger interests of bilateral relations in mind.

“Following the stand off incident at the border area, China and India with the larger interests of bilateral relations in mind have taken a cooperative and constructive attitude,” Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.
The two sides exercised restraint and properly handled the incident through relevant mechanisms, diplomatic channels and border meetings, she said.

In her first comments after the decision of the two countries to withdraw troops from the Daulat Beg Oldi (DBO) area after a 20-day stand off, Hua said, “As far as I know relevant consultations have been fruitful”.

“We believe that maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas serve the common interests of the two sides. China is ready to join hands with the Indian side to seek a mutually acceptable and fair solution to the border question at an early date”, she said.

Pressed for more details on the settlement, including dismantling of tents erected by the PLA, Hua said, “I need to follow closely the latest information”.

“As I said before the two sides bear in mind the larger interests of bilateral relations,” she said.

The two sides have taken a constructive and cooperative attitude and have maintained communication and consultation and made positive progress, Hua said.

“I will share with you relevant information if I get the latest information,” she said.

Asked whether the Chinese troops moved back from their position, when did that happen and how far they withdrew, she replied, “I have said the two sides have been constructive and cooperative and have been maintaining communications through relevant mechanism in the border regions”.

“Relevant consultations have made positive progress. I know you are very concerned about this and I must follow the information to tell you the correct information”, Hua said.

“I believe the Chinese and Indian sides should maintain peace and tranquillity in the border areas and work for the smooth development of bilateral relations”, she said.

@Ashoka The Great werent they gave a thought of Keeping the larger instrests of bilateral relations in mind before making that stupid move? The truth is china got trapped.... They backed off after knowing india joined america and japan and ready to war.... China never thought that might happen. The interview shows how much it made china panic.... When asked about removal of tents without any demands than she answers she doesnt know anything (very funny. She knows everything but ashamed to accept it. how come she doesnt know anything? If she doesnt know about her own china move than what she doing there?). Btw why havent anyone posted latest interview of salman khurshid? When asked was the disengagement by the two armies simultaneous? He replied saying ''we are saying status quo ante. There was a position on april 15. We wanted that status ante to be preserved. It was basically status quo ante to april 15''.... There you go. They made tents april 15 and we made tents on april 20 in protest and warning. We told them we wont remove tents unless china removes. They phone india and accepted it. China played a idiotic move and it only will benefit india.... Read indian forum on PDF and you will see how india speedup everything including buying weapons. Even the dassault who had problem with hall now saying we dont have any problem. There you go.... So indeed indians should thank china. indians on PDF kept screaming and trying to wake up india politicians but failed.... While china made them wake up. So do thank china for it....
