BEIJING, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- China's Mars probe Tianwen-1 will carry out its second orbital correction in September to ensure that it travels in the preset orbit, according to the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC).

As the Mars probe travels further from Earth, the communication delay is increasing. Currently, the delay is about 30 seconds, and when the probe approaches Mars, the one-way time lag can be more than 10 minutes.

The probe carried out its first orbital correction on August 2. During its flight to Mars, the probe will conduct four orbital corrections and a deep space maneuver, according to a source from the CASC.

The Mars probe is traveling away from Earth at a speed of about 300,000 km per day. As of 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, the probe was 8.23 million km from Earth.

China launched the Mars probe on July 23, designed to complete orbiting, landing and roving in a single mission, thus taking the first step in its planetary exploration of the solar system.

The probe is expected to reach the red planet around February 2021.

BEIJING, Sept. 21 (Xinhua) -- China's Mars probe Tianwen-1 on Sunday successfully carried out its second orbital correction, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

The probe conducted the orbital correction at 11 p.m. on Sunday (Beijing Time) after four of its 120N engines were in operation for 20 seconds. The performance of the 120N engines was tested simultaneously.

The probe has traveled in orbit for roughly 60 days so far, and was about 19 million km away from Earth. All of the probe's systems were in good condition, said the CNSA.

The orbital correction was carried out to ensure the probe follows the theoretical orbit as closely as possible. The probe carried out its first orbital correction on Aug. 2.

BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's Mars probe Tianwen-1 conducted its third orbital correction Wednesday night, according to the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

The probe carried out the orbital correction at around 10 p.m. (Beijing time) with its eight 25N engines working simultaneously. The performance of the 25N engines was also tested during the operation.

The orbital correction aims to fine-tune the transfer orbit after the deep-space maneuver, ensuring that the probe achieves a sound planned rendezvous with Mars.

Launched on July 23, the probe carried out its first orbital correction on Aug. 2 and the second one on Sept. 20.

The probe has traveled about 97 days in orbit, flown about 256 million km and is currently 44 million km from the Earth. All probe systems are in good condition, CNSA said.

Tianwen-1 is designed to complete orbiting, landing and roving in one mission, taking the first step in its planetary exploration of the solar system.

It is expected to reach the red planet around February 2021. After entering orbit, it will spend another two to three months surveying the candidate landing sites before it touches down.
