China set to pull out of two railway projects

Yes, even a 3rd rail makes no sense.

If existing 1m gauge trains keep going on their own railway, it makes no sense to keep them operational on the new routes if new routes already have broad gauge connection to central regions.
Do not please worry yourself. This is how our politicians think they are developing the country.

Railways is the most corrupt govt. services in our country. Nothing surprises me anymore.

If the trains run on time and are decent and clean, that is all I hope for. Thanks to some, they are doing that.

BTW, This whole fiasco is Indian-inspired and hatched.

Look at how they are Jumping with joy - they have become our uninvited auditors, accountants and scrutinizers. :omghaha:

WORLD NEWS

The Bangladesh Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has issued directions to significantly reduce the cost of two China-funded railway projects after carrying out a review, with authorities describing it as the first such action taken for ventures backed by Beijing.

The PMO directed the railway ministry to reduce the cost of the project to convert the metre-gauge line between Akhaura and Sylhet to dual-gauge line by 3,354.31 crore takas or 20.8% of the total cost, according to a report by The Daily Star newspaper.

The ministry was also directed to cut the cost of the project for upgrading the Joydebpur-Ishwardi dual-gauge line to dual-gauge double line by 1,495.52 crore takas, or 12.91% of the total cost. The directives were issued by a special committee reviewing the costs of three China-funded projects.

Such a directive from the PMO is “not only rare, but I think this is the first”, an unnamed Bangladesh railway official was quoted as saying by the daily.

Well this is a game of one-upmanship between Chinese contractor and Railway Ministry. They are bargaining hard.

If we look at it carefully, Railway ministry may have the upper hand. They may have other options (Korean, and Allah forbid, Indian). I don't know if the Chinese contractor does...

The Chinese company has contracts all around the world

Yes, you are right. Where you misunderstood is in this sentence"The problem is when the lender requires you to get a Contractor of Lenders choice without any bid. In that case BD will end up paying more."

I don't know why you guys don't know about this kind of cooperation, it's a very common way of cooperation ah, what the hell is wrong with you guys, how do you think this kind of way needs competitive bidding? This kind of seller pays to sell the product ah, India's high-speed rail, Indonesia's high-speed rail, all this kind of cooperation.

What would make you think that this approach is unreasonable, that it is going to sign an unreasonable price?

I can give an example of this type of cooperation within China. In China, in order to promote the popularity of agricultural machinery, the government leads banks and agricultural machinery companies, and farmers can get loans from banks to buy products from designated agricultural machinery companies. If the price is unreasonable and not beneficial to the farmer, then the farmer will not sign the agreement. By the same token, regardless of the type of cooperation, if the agreement is unreasonable, the agreement will not be signed.

You always start with the assumption that the government will sign an unreasonable agreement, is that a reasonable assumption?

If the Bangladeshi company can do the project well at one-third of the price, then the most reasonable option for the Chinese company is to subcontract the project to this Bangladeshi company and at the same time sign another project elsewhere so that it can make more money. There is no such thing as employing only Chinese workers as you said above, unless the Chinese company is stupid.

These rumors are always full of illogicalities that make no sense except to make people angry at the Bangladeshi government and China.
When I see information from Transparency International or other NGOs, I have to think more about what is behind their words, which are themselves an extension of Western power.

If you act like a thief, look like a thief, sound like a thief maybe you are a thief. China has to change their business practices.

With all the noise about the Wuhan virus you would think they will think twice about transparency in vaccine prices
