Oh you mean the bases in Japan and overall presence around China in Pacific ocean is not enlightenment enough for you. The fact that China has not yet invaded Taiwan might be enlightening..Or indirect push from US to stir up Chinese neighbors in general like Vietnam/Philippines/India...

To watch Japan, to protect Japan, to keep an eye on China so that Japan can be protected...So YES.

What weapons? You mean 50 random deals India is discussing, half of them don;t even materializing and rest are so delayed they will be useless by the time we get them. Yes waste money on that. Never mind that these purchases don;t make much long time sense. The sad that even today India has strictly rely on foreign imports when tiny countries like South Africa or Morocco are more military independent puts some dent in our capability to defend in future.

Weird that China is needling us by scoring economic gains while we are needling it back by blowing money that we can afford to spend on "weapons".
