China seeks anti-terror ties with Indonesia
China is willing to work with Indonesia to enhance anti-terrorism cooperation to safeguard the two countries' and region's security and stability, China's foreign ministry said on Thursday.

Spokesperson Lu Kang made the remarks in response to recent reports that Indonesian security forces killed two terrorists from China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region.

"We have noticed the relevant reports and are verifying the situation," Lu said, noting that China and Indonesia understand and support each other on anti-terrorism issues.

Both countries are terror victims and face more threats from regional and global changes, Lu said.

In recent years, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) have colluded with terrorists and extremist organizations in Indonesia to open the channel of transferring personnel to engage in international terrorism, Lu said, adding that such a move threatens China's national security and harms Indonesia's social stability.

The United Nations Security Council considers ETIM a terrorist group.

Indonesian security forces killed two ethnic Uyghur Chinese belonging to a militant network led by the country's most wanted man, police said Wednesday.

Indonesia has launched an aggressive, military-backed campaign in the jungles of Sulawesi Island as it battles the threat from growing domestic support for the Islamic State militant group, the Reuters reported.

Police said the men had joined Santoso, a militant in Poso, central Sulawesi, who is Indonesia's most prominent Islamic State backer, and have been on the run for more than three years.

Indonesian Police looking for Uighur terrorists

The National Police and Indonesian Military have stepped up efforts to hunt down four foreign nationals believed to have joined the East Indonesia Mujahiddin (MIT) terrorist group led by Indonesia’s most wanted man, Santoso, also known as Abu Wardah, in Lembah Napu, Poso, Central Sulawesi.

Central Sulawesi Police chief Brig. Gen. Rudy Sufahriadi said in a shoot-out between the joint police/military team and MIT members on Mount Talabosa in Lore Piore district, Poso regency, on Tuesday morning, two Santoso terrorists, identified as Magalasi Bahtusan aka Faroq and Nuretin aka Abdul, were killed. Both of them were from Uighur, China.

“Four more people from Uighur joining the Santoso terror group remain at large,” said Rudy, who has served in his position only three days, to journalists on Wednesday morning. The police chief himself led the manhunt on MIT members in a security operation codenamed Operation Tinombala.

Rudy said the security team joining Operation Tinombala was intensifying the manhunt on Santoso terrorists in Lembah Napu, an area comprising North Lore, Central Lore, South Lore and Lore Piore, in Poso.

At the press conference, Rudy also revealed the identities of three women from Bima, West Nusa Tenggara, who are suspected to be with Santoso in a hiding place somewhere in the forest area of Poso. The three women are Umi Delima (Santoso’s second wife), Tini and Umi Mujaddid.

Rudy said the three women had joined MIT to take revenge for the death of their husbands in a shoot-out with the National Police’s counterterrorism squad Densus 88 in Bima, West Nusa Tenggara.

Citing intelligent reports, Rudy said female voices saying “Allahu Akbar…” (God is Great) were heard during a shoot-out between MIT supporters and Operation Tinombala personnel in Torire village, Central Lore, on Feb. 28.

“These are the voices of those women,” said Rudy.

Replacing Central Sulawesi deputy chief Sr. Comr. Leo Bona Lubis, Rudy, the previous commander of Operation Tinombala, said he was committed to resolving terrorism in Poso.

He called on the newly inaugurated National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) chief, Insp. Gen. Tito Karnavian, to pay special attention to tackling terrorism in Poso.

“Before I was appointed as the Central Sulawesi Police chief, Pak Tito had told me that he would spend more time with me in Poso. Thus, I’m optimistic that we can treat exhaustively terrorism problems in Poso,” said Rudy.

Rudy said it was still a long way to go to overcome terrorism in the regency. After resolving the terrorism threats posed by the Santoso-led MIT group from their hiding place in the forests, the deradicalization program would be the next step, he went on.

“Deradicalization is ongoing and is still being evaluated. The presence of Pak Tito will maximize the ongoing deradicalization efforts,” said Rudy. (ebf)

I thought our Turkish friends always insisted that the Uighur people are committing terrorist activities in China because Chinese government is oppress them. Do explain what they are doing in Indonesia, Iraq, Syria? How did they get the passports to get into Indonesia? Are they Turkish passports? If that is the case then Turkish government is supplying terrorists with its passports, and is that supporting terrorism?
