China, Russia block Western-backed draft resolution against Syria

China and Russia have vetoed a Western-backed draft resolution against the Syrian government, requesting a new mandate for unarmed military observers in the Arab country.

The two permanent UN Security Council members on Thursday blocked the resolution calling for new sanctions on crisis-hit Syria.

The vote was postponed on Wednesday upon a request by UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan and warnings from Moscow that the resolution for sanctions “would amount to direct support” for the terrorist groups in that country.

Pretty sure Russia, China, US, UK and the rest of the first world nations have all come to the agreement that war is needed, and no better way to do that than post a veto against each other. Now if everyone would just point their weapons at the correct enemies of this planet, we'd all be better off.
