China Provides US$1.5 Billion Loan to Sri Lanka

China Development Bank Corporation has agreed to finance infrastructure projects in Sri Lanka amounting 1.5 billion US dollars over the next three years, minister Anura Yapa said.

"The financial assistance will be for bridges, roads, water supply, irrigation and power," minister Yapa told reporters.

He said the cabinet of ministers had approved signing of a memorandum of understanding between China Development Bank Corporation and Sri Lanka's finance ministry over the loans.

China's Exim Bank is already a major financier of Sri Lanka's infrastructure including a coal power plant.

China is becoming a key financier of Sri Lanka displacing traditional donors, Japan and the Asian Development Bank.

Sri Lankan government announced Thursday that China has agreed to provide financial assistance of US$1.5 billion for the country's major infrastructure projects in the next three years.

A government press release said "China Development Bank Corporation has agreed to provide financial assistance in a sum of US$ 1.5 billion within 03 years for the construction of roads, bridges, water supply schemes and also for irrigation and power."

The Cabinet has approved a proposal submitted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa allowing the Ministry of Finance and Planning to sign a Memorandum of Understanding for the purpose with the China Development Bank Corporation.

China has been the largest donor to Sri Lanka even surpassing the Asian development bank (ADB) and World Bank with providing aids for the major infrastructure projects in the country.

What you're mentioning is right and but there are Sri Lankan engineers and some workers involved in these projects. When they finished those projects advantage is for Sri Lankans so we can just ignore the disadvantage we get in the first.

We don't have major issue with the Chinese workers. Only incident which has happened so far some neighbours lost their pet dogs, I think problem is solved I didn't see any article about that again on papers.

Sri Lankans sign banner to celebrate CPC anniversary

The Communist Party of China (CPC) received a banner on Thursday bearing signatures by 1,000 Sri Lankans as a gift to celebrate the CPC's 90th founding anniversary.

"A friend in need is a friend indeed," said the Sri Lanka Freedom Party's vice chairman Alavi Mowlana after presenting the banner to Ai Ping, deputy head of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee. Mowlana, who is also head of a visiting delegation from Sri Lanka, congratulated the CPC on its 90th founding anniversary.

He also presented Ai with several congratulatory letters from organizations such as the Association for Sri Lanka-China Social and Cultural Cooperation (ASLCSCC) and Sri Lanka's Ministry of Foreign Employment Promotion and Welfare.

The idea of gifting the CPC with a commemorative banner was initiated by the ASLCSCC, which gathered signatures from 1,000 Sri Lankans, including several government officials.

"We highly appreciate the efforts of the leaders of the CPC and strongly believe that socialism with Chinese characteristics could only have been attained under the leadership of CPC," the ASLCSCC said in its congratulatory letter.

Ai said the CPC will cherish the goodwill extended by Sri Lanka and expand cooperation with Sri Lankan parties and associations that show a positive attitude toward China.

Sri Lanka seeks greater cooperation with China

Sri Lanka looks forward to greater cooperation with China in the international arena after President Mahinda Rajapaksa met with his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, a senior official said here Tuesday.

Governor of Sri Lanka's Central Bank Ajith Cabraal was referring to the meeting held on the sidelines of the economic summit held in the Russian town of St Petersburg last week.

"Many discussions were held on infrastructure investment in tourism. China has a huge middle class for tourism potential. People-to-people contact in the economic sphere can develop into flexible financial arrangements," Cabraal said.

External Affairs Minister G.L. Peiris said the Chinese president had assured Sri Lanka its support against external intervention in the internal affairs of Sri Lanka.

a decade before african country didn't gets their fects right before getting into the chinese policy , does it help to improve african population standerd in any meaningfull way , certainly not , but they just end up surrendering their rich natural resorces to china , and now they are complaning ....

the fact can be understood by the figures that india do $60bn annual trade with china , dispite not a single chines project in india....

policy is a direct proxy to colonization resime in past.....
