China-Pakistan-Russia troika stands on goodwill

In the midst of ongoing anti-Pakistan ‘psy war’ by New Delhi’s agencies and lobbyists, a media piece has been recently published in Eurasia Review that shows how much concern is being expressed not only about CPEC but also about China-Pakistan-Russia Troika.

Seemingly, the term Troika has been coined with the idea that the timing is now ripe for building up such terminology and giving it a specific meaning in the desired ‘psy war’ perspective. And if this media piece is not a completely managed write-up, it still gives the impression as if it were written under certain ‘guidelines and inspiration’.

The article in view is titled “Afghanistan cannot be abandoned to China-Pakistan-Russia Troika in 2017”. It has been written by Dr. Subhash Kapila.

The central theme of this ‘psy war’ is building up a scenario that neither exists on ground nor seems to be in the making. It also appears to take advantage of Trump’s so-called ‘iconoclastic ways’ and give suggestive options to Washington vis-à-vis the so-called rising clout of Pakistan in active collaboration with old ally China and the new ally, Russia.

The article says, “Afghanistan seemed to have disappeared from the United States’ radar in the months to the run-up to US Presidential elections resulting in a void which the China-Pakistan-Russia Troika has exploited to US disadvantage”.

The article continues: “Strategically, the United States invested heavily in Afghanistan in terms of billions of dollars and, besides that, it lost thousands of its soldiers courtesy the “double-dealing” (sic) of its ally which is usually described as a long-standing, trusted ally. In 2017, however, the United States would be well-advised not to let the China-Pakistan-Russia Troika muscle in on what rightly deserves to be called the United States’ strategic turf.

As such, Trump Administration’s highest priority should be not to abandon Afghanistan .On the contrary the United States should ensure that the “machinations” of the China-Pakistan-Russia Troika by what initially appears only as a ‘pious’ political intervention, are not allowed to morph into an eventual some sort of quasi-military Troika intervention”.

“Abandoning Afghanistan to the Troika would not amount not only to United States exit from Afghanistan but also selling away on a platter United States vital strategic interest and influence in Greater South West Asia and Central Asia. Combining China’s strategy to prompt United States exit from the Western Pacific and China’s new attempt to prompt the United States to abandon Afghanistan, both added together, would result in an inexorable strategic diminution of the United States status as the global Superpower.

“In the recent past, the United States co-opted in its efforts, along with China, to restore stability in Afghanistan oblivious to the fact that China, all along, has been securing Pakistan’s security stakes in Afghanistan through its links with the Taliban.

The article in question is based on a number of disparate and unrealistic premises some of which have been analyzed in these lines. It also shows the confused and nervous state of mind of the lobby behind this odd Troika theme that has neither taken into account the changed realities nor the immense diplomatic goodwill enjoyed by Pakistan of today. The fact is that Pakistan stands connected with the countries of the world especially of the region on a ‘quid pro quo’ basis, despite so many challenges. The article also overlooks new alignments on the regional and global canvas whose axis is peaceful co-existence and mutual reciprocity and Pakistan is moving on this mutual goodwill track with a pragmatic approach having no colonial or quasi-colonial designs in Afghanistan or elsewhere. Pakistan also doesn’t believe in playing proxy wars including proxy psy wars. In this manner, there is not the slightest likelihood of Pakistan pushing other global powers of the region to play against the interest of any country in general and the United States in particular. Nor is an iota of evidence available to suggest that Russia and China have hegemonic, military designs against Afghanistan as has been alleged in the article that says: “China, in the garb of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the China-Pakistan Axis, is bent on overturning the geopolitical stability of the region. So now, Afghanistan is the US President Trump’s most pressing call. The United States does not need an Indian strategic analyst to highlight how vital Afghanistan is for United States’ national security interests”.

The article also reflects the present mindset of Indians who are recognizing the fact that there is a strong and growing relationship between the Chinese, Russians and the Pakistanis. But, contrary to the Indians’ apprehensions, these relations will definitely bring positive changes in the region in the direction of stability. And if India seriously wants to see a peaceful, stable Afghanistan as per its claims, it will have to recognize the role and importance of Pakistan. Now take another example in consideration that about India’s and Iran’s interest in developing Chahbahar Port. The fact is that this project cannot be successful unless there is peace in southern Afghanistan. Inviting attention of the new US government, by portraying false negative side of the picture, will not bring peace in the region especially South Asia.

It must also be borne in mind that Afghanistan continues to be a country in which Pakistan has a stake, primarily because of being a direct neighbour and because of the shared ethnicity between KP and the majority of Afghans. There is rather the need for emphasizing the benefits of trade and commerce that Pakistan can offer to Afghanistan due to CPEC.

And even United States can benefit to the tune of billions of dollars by becoming a partner in CPEC which is a comprehensive package covering a wide range of economic and productive activity including energy generation and industrialization through economic zones. Pakistan has been repeatedly adjudged as a good investment destination by world rating organizations on the basis of its economic turnaround despite difficulties. The United States can invest in CPEC projects, particularly in the energy sector that offers good prospects.

Pakistan always believed on peace and prosperity of Nations as well as Region and it is prominent here that how Pakistan has been working on the same peaceful agenda that not just our old Friend China is along but interestingly Russia is also on the same path with us and Pakistan with them. We believe in stability and good relations hence, providing open opportunity for anyone to take part in all progressive and productive events/projects for betterment of the people as well as the region. There is no doubt that Pakistan-Russia relations and subjected troika have alarmed many but if an active and effective diplomacy is in play, none the derail the process nor diverging tactics can do much.

Afghanistan is the major key for peace in the region and that is why Pakistan has been playing its part for Afghanistan stability that the same is not possible without Pakistan therefore, regional powers do understand as well as international players of our stake in this issue. Pakistan's new relations with Russia and Pakistan-China-Russia troika actually countered different schemes against subjected countries in advance whereby the game was played for destabilization and contain these countries through a move via Afghanistan as well.

My sincere advice to this Indian writer (Dr. Subhash Kapilais) that India should ask Afghanistan to act against all terror groups operating in Afghanistan rather than advising Afghanistan to provide shelter to terrorist groups that target Pakistan from Afghanistan. Seems like Indian journalists have gone so far in love with the US that they are ready to abandon even Russia

Typical indian mentality, biased, narrowly focused how to pose Pakistan as a bad boy in the region.what American ,NATO and Indians are doing in Afghanistan;bringing peace ? hahahaha what a jock

When ANY Indian pundit ANYWHERE starts writing/speaking about ANYTHING, all one has to do is count a few Mississippis and voila he/she will bring up Pakistan in a negative light and ascribe all sorts of ‘redonkulous’ allegations/negative comments/claims that on careful scrutiny do not hold up. Yet these smart Indians continue to clutter up the ether with ‘fake analysis’.

As for Afghanistan, it is not unlike any other failed, poorly-governed region. The Pashtuns have been restive since 1800s when British tried their hand and civilizing them. So either US can subjugate them militarily and then change their behavior OR invest in economic infrastructure unleashing developmental forces to compel Pashtuns to change from tribal to modern society. At the moment, China is doing the latter much better than the US.
One last thing; the Indian seems to be geographically challenged. He rails against the troika. If his prescription is to be adopted then how does US maintain its strategic perch in the “greater central asia” without partnering with Pakistan and now china and Russia?

how long regional countries may ignore such Indian mentality? btw really good counter by Mian Saifur Rehman to indian author Dr. Subhash Kapila

This troika has been slowly coming together over the last two or three years. When we used to suggest to Indians back then that this is how the powers will align up in the near future, they used to laugh at us. they are not laughing anymore. A few gulps can be heard though.

I am not disagreeing with your narrative for peace in the region, but we cannot overlook one simple thing here and that is a huge conflict in this encircled land called afghanistan is coming! Peace is what the ultimate goal is but at the time we are observing it in present before that peace comes anarchy is the first in line.

As for the troika as far is afghanistan is concerned it will be the two big players (Russia+China) that will have their say more than Pakistan purely because of the political and military clout. Pakistan's role will increase later on or towards its finale but not in the beginning. My opinion.

Well IMO, Pakistan always has stake in Afghanistan and it is from beginning that we remain party either it was US or now Russia-China.

Firstly, glad to see someone has picked up the phrase Sino-Pak Axis, which yours truly has been saying for some time now. Thank you for the compliment!

While you, dear writer, are at it kindly start phrasing Afro-Asian Ocean instead of colonial designation of indian ocean. Which is rather racist towards Africans.

As we have seen the current BD regime building up a false narrative of lies regarding atroticities in 71 and BD & AF gangin up in the dead horse SAARC... we shall see a lot of such narrative building pieces in the cyberspace from indiaans and their paid assets.

The provocations agains China and Pak will continue... indiaan regime will have no other choice. Either it joins CPEC or keep up its troublemaking.

Joining CPEC means United Kashmir, freee from indian empire's occupation.

Kashmir is slipping out of its control....all these pieces are just smoke screen to build a negative image of Sino-Pak Axis.

These indiaans have already thrown Rus under the bus and the Rus knows it. They will milk the indiaan cow as long as they can.

BRICS died some time back. The emerging scenario is SCO+EEU+OBOR for South West Asia, Central Asia, ME, Africa and of course South East Asia.

CPEC is the framework that integerates the entire Kashmir into Sino-Pak Axis. It is the key component of Eurasian Security Architecture.

Occupational forces can never hold a free people.

In the coming time China will keep showing flexibility and Pak will keep showing restraint and reason.

There will be, however, rising terror activity in Pak, courtesy indiaan empire. Pak State must do everything to protect its citizens and property.

The take away in the entire piece is Rus...as we saw during the Russo-Pak joint exercise..the indian media i.e. indian state would expect Rus to óbey' indian empire and the Rus will do what the Rus does...

My only concern is the rise of more attacks on Pak civilians and forces. Be careful.

Pak is facing a double attack i.e. both physical and PsyOps. Also expect economic and political sobbotage by the fifth columnist among you.
