China orders top army officers to declare assets

Beijing, Sat Jun 23 2012, 10:28 hrs
Chinese Army
China is ordering ranking military officers to declare their personal incomes and property such as real estate in a further attempt to rein in rampant corruption.

State media reports today said all investments must be disclosed in the standard declaration of personal matters required of all leading officers.

The website of the People's Liberation Army Daily newspaper said the officers' information will be checked under strengthened verification procedures.

PLA officers enjoy numerous perks such as license plates that exempt them from fines and tolls. They frequently use their special status to advance their financial interests and those of their family and friends.

that is easily said than done. the policy has to be applied to non military ranks and the politburo members!

Great way to tackle corruption. But like the fellow above me said. It's going to be a tough to apply the sanctions.

.
that policy will spread fear in the military and this will cause bigger troubles sweeping across the whole country, especially when there are so much tension building up in SCS and in the Korean peninsula. They need to implement a counter measure to relieve the fear in the officers of getting persecution for commission, non- or under- disclosure of possession of assets outside of their proper means

I agree.

It'll great for China's long term development but has to deal with this carefully. If some past mistakes by officers of the military and government can be forgiven must be forgiven. No one wants a wholesale chaos and it's the future cleanliness of the government that counts. Raise the pay scales of all government employees on par with private enterprises at the same levels, just Singapore, is one way to stop extracurricular activities.

I think the government is serious on stemming out corruptions and that's the best news any country can have.

Same rule applies to civilian leaders including Politburo. Purge everybody with close family members who are foreign citizens.
