China mobilizes over 100 warships for S.China Sea drill

Nihonjin was trying to say to you that Japanese Navy is huge man we have 55 destroyer fleet force. Can understand that no navy in NATO beside American have such number? Can understand Jmsdf combined fleet is larger than US 7th Fleet? And Japanese Navy is growing we are inducting new ships more subs, remember we passed modernization bill for $250 Billion. Can understand how many toys we are getting ?????

Can understand meaning of 42 unit of F35A will be like?
Oh, man ... okay pls be patient to listen my opinion.
  1. Japan is a great nation, and Japanese is smart ... China also too.
  2. Japan Navy already had 55x destroyers, that's truth of all number combat warships in Japan side ... but not all ships install VLS units or can launch SM-2/3 missiles. China Navy has less DDG numbers than Japan Navy, but has much more FFG numbers than Japan Navy (especially 22x type054A FFGs with HQ-16 VLS) ... here i just discuss the quality of anti-ship & air-defense capacity, if we need to count all numbers of warships from both sides ... current China's DDG + FFG surface-ship numbers already more than Japan Navy had.
  3. Yes Japan r building more air-defense DDGs like Atago-class & Akizuki-class , and China also building air-defense DDGs like 052D-class & 055-class ... but if u visited the 052D thread in China-Defense-Section, photos to show China's JN and DL shipyards already building 10x 052D DDGs together, many new 052D launched just waiting for later sea trial. As far as i knew, current China 052D building speed is 2~3x to launch each year ... until to 2018 China indeed will have 8~10x 052D-class DDGs, and maybe 2x 055-class DDGs.
  4. China is world N.o2 economy, Japan is world N.o3 economy and i checked China still is Japan's 1st biggest foreign trade partner ... future conflict between 2x wealthy nations is unnecessary and bad for both ppl.
  5. Japan wish to keep 1st Big Navy in Asia ... yes, u can there just need N.o1 (U.S) or N.o2 (China) world's military spending to build it, or will be surpassed by others.

Here's the Japanese military magazine listed China Navy warships, all of them.

I think China has been pretty reserved.

The CCP is in quite a dilemma in SCS.

The CCP is doing as much as it can to ease tension in SCS, but at the same time, they have to appear tough for domestic audience. IMO, the only way to deescalate tension is to let the Chinese side "save face." Let them flaunt their strength in SCS as long as they know in their mind to never cross the red line.

Nope. China is doing what it has been doing since its inception. The SCS, TW and ECS sovereignty is right in the constitution, so, it was there from the beginning.

The countries that need to look tough to their domestic audience are probably Japan, the US, Philippines and Vietnam. The face to be saved more urgently is probably that of Aquino and Abe.

The build up in SCS is going as planned and at a speed as planned. Hence, so long as China does whatever it wants through peaceful ways, US, Japan and others' tough-guy game is no more than a show.

China might even give Obama a Bush moment: His own mission accomplished legacy to save face and look tough for home audience.

But I agree, China has been rather extremely reserved. It is all contingent to the overall national power. As the power rises, China asserts more strongly.

I see you are really broad minded and erudite Chinese member here not like many of other posters that all do nothing but ridicule and troll. So I can talk to you in level manner .

Japanese naval ministry already mention of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industry plan for 30FF model, a new class of frigate , 3000 tonnes , and will be heavy offensive platform, will be VLS base. The say this will be up to 15 units in class. So 30FF will add to size and represent new naval buildup not just compartmentalizing.

LOL JMSDF is just ASW flotilla of US 7th fleet,
how many land attack cruise missile does JMSDF have?
what's the best Anti-ship missile in service?
How many jets in naval air-wing?
$250 billion is modernization is over 5 years, we spend $130 billion each year on defense (that's only the official figure)
our defense spending is You and Russia and Israel combined, you comprehend?

To build 15x 3,000-ton 30FF is okay ... just curious which VLS system will be installed on such 3,000-ton FFG ? Still MK-41 or others ? Launch SM-2 or ESSM missile ?

Japan 30FF is the AESA FFG design

China also plan for next type054B AESA FFG

Just to augment your post, Yoshi-senpai, there will be two new models introduced into the Navy:

  • 25DD Class Destroyer
    • New 5,000-ton destroyer program first revealed in the MoD's budget request,. Seemingly an ASW optimised development of the Akizuki class likely intended for Sea Lines of Communication duties rather than the escort of Ageis destroyers as in the case of the Akizuki. Planned to cost even less to operate and maintain than the already low cost Akizuki class, partly through the use of COGLAG [Combined Gas turbine Electric And Gas turbine] propulsion. ¥72.3 billion has been requested for the construction of the first unit in the class.
    • Plans for 4-8 of this class

  • DDR Destroyer Revolution
    • 5400 tonnes Light Escort Destroyer project, also referred to as 'the next generation escort ship'. Program in existence since 2009, current plans are to start construction on the first of class by 2021 at the latest.
    • Plans for 8-10 of this class
