What's new

China is Better Developed Than America

. . .
That's mostly due to population density. A "city" with just one gas station probably has < 10,000 people in it. Any more than that and the line to pump gas would be extending down the road. Or they simply restrict commercial development. Many wealthy towns don't allow any commercial development as they don't need the tax money.

That's true. A small seaside city I recently visited doesn't even allow MacDonald to move in. It reminds me of the way India deals with Walmart. The attitude like this will suffocate any new development, and good willed government can do nothing about it.

Sometimes, tough decisions need to be forced for the sake of future, but beyond the comprehension of regular John and Joe. Average voters are either too dumb to care about the fine prints of every proposals, or care too much about next years tax return, to make wise decision for Greater Good.

Chinese cities have more modern building, better roads and subway systems , bus and train service, so Chinese cities look more developed in infrastructure and city facilities, US in general is of course way ahead of China, China is still a developing country.

Majority of the US cities of what you see today were developed from 1920's -1960 . In US you cannot bring down everything and just start building new things like China does. The Courts will simply not allow it here. China being an authorotarian state can do things without consequences or resistance.

Still it's Cities and Suburbs look much better than China.

You know nothing about China, the government does face a lot of resistance when bringing down buildings, that's why we have a common word 钉子户 (nail houses) and US does have laws that can evict landowners without their consent.

In US you cannot start building bridges/Tunnels/Infrastructure out of the blue like China does . There is a procedure here to do everything . There are very strong Civic Laws /Private Property Rights in US which prevents the government from doing this . Any project that is done here is started after due procedure . In China you start building roads bridges tomorrow because basically the government is not answerable to anybody.

That's what you media told you, right, building something just on a whim.. the truth is before the government takes any projects, tons of researches and studies had been done by hundreds if not thousands of experts, professionals and scholars already, feasiblity studies often have divided camps debating for years. Three gorgeous dam was planned and debated for decades before the green light, but once something is decided and ready to go, all arguments will be over and everyone is committed to make it happen even you were the opponent of them in the first place.

The Things Government in China does the US simply cannot do simply by nature of the US government being answerable to its People . In China things are build without any environmental assessment (Not hard to imagine given how polluted China is ) and many of the skyscrapers have sub par material used in them .

In US you cannot just start building skylines and cities because of the laws in place . Chinese government can do whatever it wants without any backlash . Here is another article

irst, look at expressway construction. In 2008, the nationwide total mileage plan was adjusted up to 100,000 kilometers. That year alone we built 6,433 kilometers and invested a total 600 billion yuan. Nationwide expressway mileage is expected to grow to a staggering 180,000 kilometers, if we add provincial and national building plans. Personal vehicle traffic levels are too low on some expressways built over the past five years. Considerable stretches of expressways completed in central and western regions are usually empty, simply basking in the sun. Thus, expressway construction has suffered from excessive expansion. It's gotten out of control.

Second, over-expansion for coastal port development planning and construction has clearly led to excessive competition between ports. China's port throughput capacity reached 4 billion tons in 2008, yet coastal communities continue to compete in the race to build large-scale berth and shipping container ports. Every port authority makes lofty claims about becoming a coastal or international hub for commercial shipping.

Additionally, many regional airports are being built blindly, with huge investments but no feasibility studies. This has led to major losses. In 2008, national subsidies to small- and medium-sized airports reached 9.3 billion yuan. But by 2020, we'll have added another 100 or so airports, mainly regional airports. Every year recently, construction has begun on about 20 regional airports, and more are waiting to be approved.

Moreover, there's been a surging wave of railway construction projects, including intercity rail linking big cities, suburbs and small cities in some provinces, regions and municipalities. Our research group found there will not be enough traffic to support the big, city-centered railway transportation systems after they are completed.

Lu blames local governments for starting big infrastructure projects in order to boost production. He says governments will often base a project on long-term demand projections, even though it will be unfeasible in the near-term. Read the full interview at Caixin.

American Cities and Towns still have a better Skyline and are much more aesthetically pleasing on the whole . China bypasses laws to do things , which is not possible in US or Western Europe.

That's what your media fools you always, Chins actually is the world biggest investor in clean energy and eco friendly indutries and products, that's why China's environment is improving fast, from the space , satelites can see that China contritubes the most of world new greenery. You quoted source from 2011, for decades the western media and so called China experts in the west have beening claiming China's imminent crash, but China only gets better and wealthier, let's check the reality on the ground , not those China doomsday articles and theories over the time, they got boring long time ago even for some westerners.

Have you ever traveled to China, there are some foreigners who did travel back and forth to China over the time and they have a better picture of China, but they are overwhelmed by main stream western media being reported by those who have never set feet in China.

China lacks on the Environment Front compared to US or European countries . Just take the example of clean air for starters . US despite having 300 Million people has the 7th Cleanest air in the world . I am not a westerner , I am a Pakistani living in US so I am not brainwashed by anything .

It's not that simple. Eminent domain cases ends up in court and the government indeed does lose.

Land owners in the Boston area sued the Federal government for attempting an Eminent Domain of their property to build a highway. The highway was re-routed.

Hey it's their town. If they don't want businesses in that's their right. I'm pretty sure before anybody moves there they have been alerted to this fact. In the minds of the residents that is the Greater Good. This sort of makes me think of Martha's Vineyard where you won't be seeing any McDonalds.

A big Chinese village can easily have more people than some US towns, but in China, if they are poor and underdevloped, we still tend to call them villages, once they become modern looking with first class infrastructures and facilities, we start to tend to call them towns or " new cities". Zhongguancun in Chinese is Zhongguan Village, it's not a village now by all means.
what is difference between village and town in China ?

@Khan_21 Unfortunately as you know, many threads on this forum Boil down to pure nationalism.

Essentially, to Figuratively rub something in another groups face.
