PressTV - China invests USD 6bn in Iran oilfields

China will invest more than USD 6 billion for the development of Iran's “giant” north and south Azadegan oilfields, Iranian deputy oil minister has said.

“Separate contracts have been signed with Chinese companies for the development of North and South Azadegan oilfields,” Ahmad Qalebani was quoted by Mehr News Agency as saying.

“The complete development of these two giant oilfields requires more than USD 6 billion which cannot be funded by a domestic contractor,” he said.

Qalebani added that the contractor for the two oilfields was the same Chinese company, which he did not name.

The Azadegan oilfield, which lies in southwestern Iran, is one of the world's largest, with reserves of 42 billion barrels.

In 2009, China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) signed a deal with the National Iranian Oil Company for the development of South Azadegan oilfield, which Iran said needed USD 2.5 billion in investment.

In the same year, CNPC also won a deal to develop North Azadegan oilfield. That deal was worth USD 2 billion in its first phase.

pretty risky investment considering it is only a matter of time before war breaks out there.

thomas, i'm gonna be a grandpa and you're gonna be dead and the US is still gonna be barking. Most of your countrymen have already realized that Iran is here to stay. Get with the program and stop embarrassing yourself.
So far we have killed thousands of your soldiers directly and indirectly (a couple of hundred in Lebanon+Iraq+AFG), took your diplomats, citizens and spies hostage whenever we wanted and worked with your enemies whenever we wanted. It's been 32 years since you started threatening us. Accept the fact that you're gonna die without your wish being granted.

Only a matter of time before war breaks out? With Iran and/or North Korea?

Anyway, risk is proportional to reward. Look at Greek bond yields for example. You get extra returns in exchange for your risk.

It is already factored into the calculations.

No doubt China reaps rewards for the time being. And at the same time Iran pretty much Guarantees a Chinese veto on any UN Security Council vote that effects their investment. Which means an Israeli or U.S. action against Iran will moist likely be unilateral. And who knows what the trigger will be leading to conflict. Iran’s use of proxies, Nukes, the seizing one to many times of ships outside Iran’s territorial waters, ECT. But sooner or later something will happen.

That sounds quite bad.

Why are you guys pushing for another war so soon?

I'm sure your not ignorant of the worlds concerns about Iran.

I am well aware of those issues.

Having issues is not the same thing as having a war though. And I don't know how you can be so sure, that there will even be a war.

The world is recovering from the financial crisis. I don't know what reason there would be, to plunge it into chaos again.

The nukes are the main issue though the other items listed could inadvertantly lead to war. For Iran to posses nukes, supply and train terrorist organizations through the revolutionary guard and Quds forces, and use it's proxies to wage conflict. these are the recipes that will bring about war.

Iran doesn't have nuke weapons

they may support some groups but not the al-qaeda and saddam regime which U.S funded and armed

and U.S policy is not run by some bible freaks, so just chill

WHAT NUKES?

We are meddling in Iraq's affairs and we have EVERY RIGHT to do so. They are our neighbors and what happens in Iraq matters to Iran. You on the other hand have no reason to be there. Either gtfo or don't cry like a little when we shoot your soldiers.
war isn't for little girls Thomas. Grow a pair grandpa.

@Thomas
:pop: If the USA started a Iraq-war or Afghanistan-war again now, So what were the consequences?

Give up your pride and prejudice.
Trade-freedom also is a freedom. Embargo destroy the trade freedom. Why does the USA really like to do that?
Look at the Statue of Liberty. Now the USA is not knight who is guarding her, you are only a mouse below her skirt.

very good news indeed trade will improve our relation with others country

I salute you for having the guts to at least admit Iran's meddling in Iraq. Most Iranian nationalists deny, deny, deny. Aside from the nuke issue it isn't Iraq though that will drag the area into war. It is Iran's proxy Hezzbollah, and partner in the proxy war Syria. As far as the nuke issue, for the time being unless Israel acts first. Obama hasn't shown much fortitude to act when it comes to hard foriegn policy decisions. Which gives Iran time to progress and possibly complete it's bomb program. However he is most likely a one term president. we will see what happens after 2012.
