Whereas Zhongguo --- The Great Middle Kingdom --- has remained intact , and rises again. All empires that went against China : Xiognu, Huns, Mongols, Manchu, Japanese, British, French --- all collapsed. Yet where is China? The Chinese never had the national character of overzealous expansionism (thank G_d) ! The Chinese are, in general, a very peaceful people, centered in their trade, development, in peace. They have always been a reactionary people, and trusting, tho sensitive of past wrongs. Tho not closed to opening their hearts to past aggression. In fact, Japan is very lucky to have a neighbor like China , tho we have wronged them in the past, they are able to work with us, even accept us amongst them to trade, and to engage in culture exchanges, friendship exchanges.

The Chinese never engaged in extermination campaigns, rather, as you know about Chinese character of their migration to other parts of Asia --- they will integrate and mingle with host civilizations: be it in Indonesia, Viet Nam, Thailand, Philippines, Malaysia, Burma, Singapore , Japan , Korea, United States, EU et al.

Every where in the world you will find a Chinatown. And Chinese Huaren -- do they not integrate and are proactive members of society? Of course. They do not make a big noise even in their host societies, but do their best to assimilate.

Q: According to the Philippine media, China has effectively controlled Wufang Jiao in the South China Sea and prevented Philippine fishermen from operating there. Can you confirm and give us your comment?

A: According to information from relevant departments in China, at the end of the year 2015, a foreign vessel was grounded near Wufang Jiao of China's Nansha islands. The owner of the vessel tried many times to tow it away but failed. He then decided to abandon the ship and dismantled and took away its main equipment. If the vessel was left aground for a long time, it might cause possible impediment to navigation safety and damage to the marine environment. Therefore, China Rescue and Salvage of Ministry of Transport recently sent salvage ships to tug the grounded vessel out of the shallow water for proper disposal. During the operation, the Chinese side advised fishing boats near the waters to stay away for navigation security and operation safety. The Chinese ships have returned after the operation.

I want to stress that China has indisputable sovereignty over the Nansha Islands including Wufang Jiao and the adjacent waters. China is willing to work with ASEAN countries to continue to fully and effectively implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC) and uphold peace and stability of the South China Sea.
