As if cheap Android mobiles of ANY sort are made in India from scratch.

Micromax and other local brands sold in India are majority of what Indians buy (majority are price buyers and not iPhone or Samsung buyers) and those no name cellphones like Micromax are all assembled from Chinese parts (yes all parts meaning display, processor chip, smd components, batteries even micro connectors). Where else are the parts going to come from?

No honestly - I'm really curious if Indian companies make some cellphone parts themselves. To my knowledge Micromax and local Indian cellphone assemblers haven't even invested in SMD Pick and place machines for the circuit boards (like some companies in neighboring Bangladesh even), they import complete boards as well as Chinese-made sub assemblies to assemble quickly into cellphones. A shortcut to profit so to speak. The minimal value addition locally is simply to circumvent local import tariff.

I'd love to be proven wrong however....

If India stops to trade with China, there will have shortage for many daily commodities. The price will definitely increase. Those poor people will suffer a lot. Even India can make them in the future, without scale effect, it will be quite expensive. Without profit, those companies have no choice but go bankrupt.
