“According to the survey there is a connection between religiosity, beliefs and socio-demographic characteristics like age, income and education level.”

China is the least believing country in the world but belief in a God gets 100% mention in countries like Indonesia, Bangladesh and Philippines, according to the survey by Gallup International.

According to the survey exploring religious tendencies of 66,000 people in 68 countries across the world, 62 per cent of people in the world define themselves as religious, 74% of people globally believe we have a ‘soul’ and 71% believe in a God. Another 56% believe in heaven, 54% in life after death and 49% in hell.

China has the highest percentage of atheists in the world with 67% not believing in any religion. Every seven out ten people are atheists, more than double than any other country. 23% consider themselves as non-religious. Less than 10% identify themselves as religious in China.

China’s atheist percentage is followed by Japan, a long way behind in second place at 29%, Slovenia (28%) and Chech Republic (25%). Despite rapid industrialisation and urbanisation religion has stayed relevant in the South Korean region with only 23% identifying as atheist.

European countries like Belgium (21 %), France (21%) , Sweden (18%) and Iceland (17%) also have a large percentage of believing population.

Bangladesh, Indonesia and Philippines are the most believing countries with entire population claiming to believe in God, soul, hell and heaven. Thailand and Pakistan have 99% believing population, followed by India, Vietnam and Mongolia.

The survey shows that the levels of religiosity diminish as income and education levels increase. While 66% of people with low income affirm to be religious, this percentage drops to 50% among people with higher incomes. The same trend is verified in relation to education levels: 83% of people with lower education level are religious against 49% of higher level.

According to the survey there is a connection between religiosity, beliefs and socio-demographic characteristics like age, income and education level. As education and income levels grow higher, religiosity levels tend to go down. Also, the expression of different beliefs is higher among young people.

The level of education has a considerable influence on the perception of religion by the society. Women and young children show higher percentage for spiritual forces.

What's the difference between not believing in any religion and non-religious?

The 21st century is full of wars and propaganda against the old religions. The atheists also have beliefs, so atheism is a religion of the 21st century.

We also have many other belief systems who are similar to religions like Gothic, hippies etc. Its a complete new way of life and not just some fashion. The media on purpose is trying to defame and destroy the old religions but instead is helping in promoting some new way of life and beliefs.

This proves that a man is incomplete without a way of life and belief. It wants to worship something, be it Allah almighty, a stone or himself as done in the 21st century

That is not correct.

In India, the last two general elections saw the victory of the Hindutva right-wing party, the BJP, being elected to power. A large section of its voters were the so-called educated youth and the white collar professionals in the ITES and financial services industry.

Additionally, the Muslim youth right-wingers in India, part of the Tableeghi Jamaat movement, has risen rapidly in the last ten years and its support base is essentially the Muslim youth in schools / colleges and also in white collar professions.

What kind of survey it is? Just some years ago (less than 10 years), another survey shown that Vietnam was one of the most (or the most, cannot remember exactly) atheist countries in the world, which triggered a debate in various Western sites, because generally atheism are related to prosperity, but Vietnam was just so poor and backward.

And this survey shown Vietnam is on equal with India.

Chinese only believe in make weapons, dominate the world. Chinese are practical people. Of course they don't believe religion.

you are more likely talking about Americans.

Chinese are not angel not Satan, religions may be angel may be Satan.

.
Most of the East Asians are falling into the atheist category.

That is not because they don't have religion, they just have different idol and believe system.

.
I hope I don't upset our Chinese friends when I say this, but the CPC does not like religion and makes it hard to be a practicing worshiper.

So of course there will be more atheists.

Of course there are temples/churches/mosques in China, no one is saying there is not.
But official CPC rules are very anti faith as the only faith Chinese people should have is in the CPC

.
All China, Japan and Korea are on top 10 of the least religious nations, so maybe it's a cultural thing.

How about you mate ? Do you believe with this data since you live in mainland China ?

Old China, Japan, Korea, and Vietnam follow Buddhism, so I am not surprise with this data, Buddhism itself never mentioned about God but only one saying that He is there. Buddhism is the least religion who talk about God and doesnt believe with God's intervention on human life. It will be easier for Buddhist to transform into Atheist than any other religion followers.

I would say many Chinese are superstitious with some old Chinese folk religions, we hate number 4 cause in Chinese it sounds like the word for death along with many other taboos, but we still largely claim we are non religious, 100% authentic atheists account for 20-30% of the Chinese population, that's about right. real religions followers may account for less than 10% of the population, I would say mostly Buddhists, followed by Christians then some Muslims and some other small religions like Taoists, Shamanism...

What are you talking about, atheism is the lack of belief so no its not a religion, some atheists are gay, some are racist so are liberal some are trans, some are realist. They/we dont follow or pray to a god, there is no heaven or hell. Some are spiritual some aren’t, atheists have no ritualistic practices that we classify it as religion.
I use evolution as my understanding of life, but I dont pray to it, I dont hold it to anything, there is no consequences in the existence of the world to me, my only rituals are in law and order, human nature and in creating/ living in a world where most people can have a good and healthy life, what for? For the next generation, for our children's children. Atheism isn’t a religion, though some atheist may also be religious/ritualistic/spiritual I am neither.

.
I would like to find out how many people in the world have a belief in God without belonging to a religion.
