China’s crackdown on fake export invoices used to disguise money flows is probably cutting the nation’s trade figures, revealing subdued global demand that will weigh on economic growth.

“The crackdown from China’s foreign-exchange authorities on fake invoicing will bring the inflated export growth down to the real trend, which is single digits,” said Zhang Zhiwei, chief China economist at Nomura Holdings Inc.

Some people here have poor reading comprehension. The figures aren't doctored, but some companies are trying to circumvent capital controls and transfer funds around thorough phony business deals. The fact that a crackdown occured, and China still grew at 7.7% last quarter, is very satisfying.

In contrast, data fabrication is state-sponsored in India, although they don't have the integrity to 'crackdown', only to brush it aside as a mistake:

Overstating a mere 9 billion and then coming out in 2011 to say a mistake was made shows exactly that the intent was not to cook the figures. 9 billion out 190 odd billion is not gonna shift any GDP numbers .

In your case and in article is says " Economists in a separate survey last month said January-April export growth was overstated by 4 to 13 percentage points." if that is not fudging of numbers on a large scale ( note % points not 4 to 13 billion$$ ) then you have just created new math.
