China enhancing military cooperation with Canada & France
A senior Chinese military official said on Wednesday that China hopes to make joint efforts with Canada to promote dialogues and advance practical cooperation between the two armed forces.
Chen Bingde, chief of the General Staff of the People's Liberation Army and a member of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while meeting with Walt Natynczyk, chief of the defence staff of Canada.
Chen praised the robust and rapid development of bilateral relations, featuring frequent high-level contacts, deepened political mutual trust and rapid development of economic and trade cooperation, which has benefited people of both nations.
The development of bilateral military ties has kept positive momentum, said Chen, adding China is willing to enhance military exchanges and cooperation with Canada at all levels and in all fields in the future.
Natynczyk said Canada attaches importance to developing relations with China and hopes that the two armies could forge closer ties.
He suggested that the two sides enhance regular high-level visits, expand pragmatic cooperation and increase contacts on multilateral occasions, so as to promote the ties.
Earlier Wednesday, Guo Boxiong, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission also met with Natynczyk and pledged deepened pragmatic cooperation between the two armed forces.
Natynczyk arrived in Beijing on Tuesday, starting his four-day China visit, which will also take him to Nanjing and Shanghai.
On the same day, Chen also met with Philippe Combes, deputy chief of staff of the French army, who just attended the 11th strategic dialogue between defense ministries of the two countries.
France was the first western nation to forge diplomatic relations with the new China, said Chen, noting that, as long as the two countries steer the direction of bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, the bilateral ties will develop healthily.
China is ready to work with France to develop the partnership, said Chen.
Noting bilateral military ties are an important component of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, Chen called on the two armies to push practical cooperation to a new stage under the guidance of the consensus of both leaders.
Combes said the two sides had exchanged views in an in-depth way on major strategic issues concerning international and regional security.
France is confident about the development of bilateral military ties and is willing to make joint efforts with China to enhance cooperation in international actions such as military training, peacekeeping, and anti-piracy, said Combes.
