China encourages construction of the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative to comply with national laws: Ambass

I am not advocating hostility....we cannot afford it even if I wanted to. But we are ought to scrutinize it before committing ourselves to it.

We have to balance India with China until we are strong enough. But having such a huge trade gap with both is irritating.
This is why I always talk about building our own industries one after another that will cause us to import less from the two giants. The shops are full of plastic-made Chair/Tool, Balti, Mug, Lota, Bodna imported from China. Garments sector is a success because it is a private sector. Most other things are controlled by the inefficient GoB which has failed to guide the building of new sectors.

@Top Cat, how is the progress of hundreds of EPZs and SEZs? I wonder why the govt should go after many hundreds simultaneously instead of going for the full completion of a few ones so that FDI or local companies can bring in machines and set up new factories in those venues. Seems, the GoB people are not aware of the word 'Schedule'.

Good points both.

Our trade deficit will not decrease unless we increase the breadth, selection and variety of our export basket. Only with the passage of time. But the planning is needed now.

And Bangladesh. we have any conflicts?

Myanmar is the only point of visible contention. Other than that - not much....

What is Bangladesh even producing that China + India can dump in first place?
They will dump their own products on BD. Because because of easier transportation, goods will be cheaper....

If we can't even make small consumer goods as these, then how can we ever develop?

Everyone understands this but yet nothing is being done..RMG is still like 85% of our total exports.

You actually have to be producing yourself (in significant enough amount) whatever it is they are "dumping" on you....for it to even start to count as dumping.

Be it electronics, transport or anything of medium+ manufacturing level....BD produces very scant amount in first place. You actually have to work to make those competitive even in BD market scale (and I've talked to you about excise levels +ease of business + good banking credit access etc.) before you can accuse others of dumping (because then we can look at what is the unfair relative subsidy advantage)....because right now, no such reference even exists in BD to compare to. Dumping simple doesn't even enter the picture. Same is the scenario with lot of electronics import that India does from China....there is no dumping there (that can be argued w.r.t local reference values) because the capacity is just starting in India to make such items.

You are wrong. Most of our plastic products are home manufactured. We produced 250 billion Taka worth plastic product last year and this is increasing at 20 percent every year. Plastic export rose to 31 percent last year to 117 million USD. Bangladesh also replacing Chinese toys with local production. I urged you not to claim bogus things based on your preconceived ideas, prejudice, without fast hand experience or sufficient studying. Unfortunately you are too fond of practicing these habits.:undecided:

You are more alike Hindus than Muslim. You play nothing using China against India or vice versa because you are under IQed.
