China: Deputy chief of People's Liberation Army to visit India for defence talks

BEIJING: China today confirmed that the defence dialogue with India would go on as scheduled on December 8 in the Indian capital, signalling that bilateral parleys were on track despite recent irritation in ties over border talks.

The Deputy Chief of Staff of People's Liberation Army, (PLA) Ma Xiaotian will take part in two day Defence and Security dialogue to be held in New Delhi, Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hong Lei told a media briefing here today.

Gen Ma will hold in-depth exchange of views over regional situation, defence exchanges and cooperation between the two countries, Hong said.

The confirmation of talks aimed at discussing a whole gamut of issues, including mutual suspicions over rapid development of border infrastructure and deployment of troops is seen as Beijing putting the behind differences and continuing with the dialogue process.

Hong however said no fresh dates for the Special Representative talks to discuss differences on border have been worked out.

"The two sides keep in communication of the specific date of the meeting. I have no specific information to release", he said.

The 15th round of border talks was to be held on Nov 28-29 in New Delhi but was put off at the last minute following China's objections to Dalai Lama's participation in an international Buddhist conference, which was being held around the same time.

The conference was held as scheduled with the participation of Dalai Lama while the top Indian leaders stayed away from it.

Subsequently Governor West Bengal, M K Narayanan attended another event in which Dalai Lama took part in Kolkatta, despite official requests made by Chinese Consulate officials there to stay away from the function.

Not what your government and the rest of your country thinks :azn:

**** off Adnan Faruqi, why the **** would you not want something that furthers military-military ties between China and India. In the end if the army is against a war, no politician will be able to force it to happen.

You've obviously never faced down the barrel end of a gun if you can advocate hostilities between sovereign nations.

Seems china is sending them anyway.

Talks is good for both nations.

Agreed.

China is better off sending him... and India is better off receiving him.

Hope sense continues to prevail.

Not what your government and the rest of your country thinks :azn:

There are always common people, who don't see as far as the governments do.

Btw.. neither India nor China is doing the other a favour. It's mutually beneficial and makes sense.

China should not be sending its top military leaders to places with poor public health. They might get sick, belly ache or something. Then it could affect national security.
Most Indian welcome such bilatral relationship besides the disputes that we might have and there is no need for you to reply back to the -ve aspirations on one Indian, rather I would have been happy if you had posted your opinion of the actual topic which says and boosts some thing good for both the countries.

Man, when I ask the Chines members and Indian members to look for the +ves of a bilatral treaty that increases the frienship and stability of the region, guys just fly off from the thread. but when the troll feast happens i don;t know where these guys come from but the troll threads get filled with posters.

:tdown:Waste of time... slavery by Congress dogs and media as usual licking their babu's behinds by hyping it. :hitwall:

If Border Dispute can be Solved By Talks then its All Fine !! Status Quo is Way to go

Neither China Nor India can Afford war if they Really want this Century to be 'Asian Century'

All ways good to try something different.
Isolationism against rivals/enemies,only works if there not next to each other.

other than that as the saying goes ;keeps ur friends close and ur...

1. Mind ur words kid rest assure I can give a more then benefiting reply but don't want to go down to ur level.

2. I am against every illusion that keeps India occupied in illusions and that can endanger our national security.

3. At one hand china is providing uranium/nuke plants to pakistan and help to insurgents in India and supports to Maoists in Nepal on the other hand you thinks that they are our possible friend.

4. I believe in:

We will cross the bridge when we will reach it.

If you donot agree with his view you can politely put forward your views by disagreeing with him. But abusing your own countrymen just because you are against his views is not so intelligent of you and highly regrettable.

God blessed us with a tongue which can make friends and enimies alike... You, by your behavior sir, highlight just the reason that India should be glad that people like you are not the face of our culture and behavior... Like you and me, any othe poster has a view and if that poster is not getting disrespectful, you have no right to get disrespectful... period...

and, if you are man enough and realize your mistake, you should apologize...

Back to the topic... Talks are always welcome, and we Indians have a heritage of welcoming our guests and this is an esteemed guest... This is a good news that Second in Command at PLA is visiting us... We should show him the best of Indian hospitality and engage with him... engagement can never hurt and no one has ever lived in peace after fighting with the neighbours... I am sure our administration is smart enough and realizes that

Adnan bhai, will have to disagree with you on this. Talks never hurt and he is not any tom, dick, harry... Engaging with him and China does not mean that we stop thinking for securing our nation. At the same time, just because we are securing ourselves does not mean that we will not even go to the talks table with our neigbour... That is not correct diplomacy...
