There is quite a lot of coal and iron ore in India, and increasing the production of steel is a real possibility. Not sure about the concrete.

increase of steel production and even cement would cause a lot of pollution. not saying India can't do it, but is it worth it.

Political speeches comes with a bucket full of salt.
Intent should be seen, numbers are generally out of bounds :D

Unless China stops Steel production, this will not happen atleast in Modi's life.

"Our workforce is below 35 years old and can work hard to achieve this dream," Modi told a gathering of over 50,000 people."

This has spoken volume about India. Good luck to your country for having Modi as your PM. Where is his vision?

Production of steel, whether measured by volume, quality or by conservation of energy demand a lot more than human's age and work ethics. You are not running a garment factory, are you Mr Modi?

Indians are deeply obssessed with China trying to stay ahead by all means
It has been going on like this from Nehru to Modi, Indian hype-ups over issues with China, galore
Which Indian PM have I missed out on the "Obssession of China" list?

Dont violate the fundamental law of economics. Just export the ore to China we'll do the rest

That is one of the things. Exporting ore is more profitable, than selling it to Indian steel plants. The recent coal mines auctions got to change that, along with some other policy/taxation changes. Besides, Indian companies need to show some interest in building more plants, which always was hampered by the red tape.

Apart from past 15 years, both countries have been relatively equal economically. Besides, what other benchmark for any developing country is better than China!

What I said in my posting was India has to focus on R n D in steel productions
Concentrating on "manpower" in raising productivity is grossly outdated
