China confirms plans for manned moon landing

The space shuttle was the technology of yesterday, China is not interested to waste its money to develop on an outdated technological concept.

The space plane is China's true future goal, which is far more advanced than the retired space shuttle.
Again, this goes to show how ignorant you are in science and technology. Do you think expendable vehicles, the kind China is using NOW, are any more 'advanced'?

Yup, bonehead of the year award so early into the new year.

.
Congrats, you already have won the bone-head of the year 2012 award on the first day of the new year.

For the rest, Space Shuttle mission was retired because of the high-cost. No other country had space shuttle success like US. I am all for Chinese being successful with their manned mission but come on, one has to respect the trailblazers if you have to understand what kind of challenge one is under-taking.

The high cost is not sustainable for the long term operation, that's why it got retired earlier.

. .
Then what make you think the space plane is going to be any cheaper?

In the long term run, it costs more than the manned spacecraft because of its high maintenance cost.

Didn't your Indian friend also say the same in the previous post? :coffee:

Fine. Then why do you criticize the Space Shuttle as outdated technology? From the technology perspective, explain to the readers as to why is China using expendable vehicles, an even older technology.

The technological concept of the space shuttle is more advanced than the expendable manned spacecraft.

However, its design is a big mess, and utterly a failure. Of course, it can have more improvement, but it seems that US just gave up since its design was a failure from the beginning.

It is more reliable and it has relatively low cost compared to the space shuttle.

So why not? :coffee:

Who said the Space Shuttle is 'flawless'? This just goes to show -- again -- your scientific and technical ignorance about this subject. For US, you demand perfection, but for everyone else, you give all sort of latitude. But it could be argued that by applying perfection against US, it shows how far ahead we really are.
yeah you are so acknowledged about scientific and technical stuff, yet still a maintenance guy now living in a basement`:D

Then based upon this, what qualified YOU to call the Space Shuttle design as a 'failure'? What reusable vehicles preceded the Space Shuttle to be a standard? Certainly not from China.

From what everyone seen so far, I know a lot more than ALL of you Chinese boys combined.

Its concept is not a failure, but its design is a big failure.

You still don't get it?

A space plane is basically the ultimate improvement of the space shuttle, that's what we are working in the future, but the US version of space shuttle is already in the trash can of the history.

Looks like I 'get it' better than you do. How can you call the Space Shuttle when it is -- still -- the world's first reusable vehicle, carried more payload per vehicle than any expendable vehicle to date, gave US more knowledge than anyone else on how to maintain a reusable vehicle fleet, trained more astronauts than any other vehicle to date, and the list is considerable...

Give the readers a PRIOR reusable vehicle that established a baseline in order for them to legitimize your 'failure' argument.

A space plane is a reusable vehicle. Just in case you do not understand.

sure sure old man```if that makes feel better over your maintenance/basement life

All you guys have to do is show the readers a baseline standard of a PRIOR reusable space vehicle so the readers can see how the Space Shuttle is a 'failure'. Can you do that?
