What's new

China backtracked on nearly all aspects of U.S. trade deal

only 11.5% and will be lesser in the future and people think we'll be doomed without amelikan market..... hahah lolzzzz

It might as well be just the other way round. The US is missing out on China's market when it is transitioning from a manufacturing/export driven economy into a consumption-driven economy, which will mean a more balanced trade -- no more excessive trade surplus, which means that people in Mainland China make them, but do not enjoy what they create.

Now, it is time for China to indulge itself a little.

When one party has the upper hand, why should it accept all the conditions of the weaker party?

Americans are getting delusional like the Indians.

You might have wrong perception about the trade war between US and China, it is US which has upper hand in this trade deal negotiations, US is going to gain out of this deal and China is going to lose whenever the deal is finalized. The main point of contention at the moment is that how much China is willing to lose, that is the point on which there is a deadlock at the moment, China is already offering them something but US thinks that it is not "enough" for their appetite and China should give bigger concessions, that is the point on which the negotiations are taking place.

Please read all else that's posted. China is diversifying and BRI is to do away the heavy dependency of trading relationship with USA.

Look you are talking about future plans of china, I am talking about "present reality".

There seems to be a number of posters here (from one side of the dispute) who can't grasp the reality of what is happening. Pinning this all on one man, dismissing that one man as this or that, 'it's face saving tactics', 'they don't know what to do', filtered interpretations of likely outcomes: it's all getting rather tedious.

The trade war between the two most powerful nations today has been decades in the making. It has an historical inevitability about it. How it plays out is uncertain, but it is not going to end anytime soon. It could develop into something worse than a trade war, lets hope it doesn't.

Umm, aren't you living in a 'redneck' country (Netherlands)? Odd thing to do if that's true, you don't seem to like them very much.

Trump is causing far more harm then good to the American people and has been warned by his own economists that he’s doing long term and fundamental damage to the American economy.

I am not sure how we 'backtracked' when nothing was signed and agreed. Does anyone have access to the discussions? Nobody does, so now the propaganda machine is on full speed. Many months ago, the same media told everyone China is weak and giving in. In the end, trump found out who is the tough negotiators now right? Don't ever underestimate your opponent and don't talk too much. Ever wondered why the Chinese doesn't talk much?

The US economy is performing very strongly under Trump's administration therefore they have calculated they can take the risk of escalating the trade war. Markets are performing strongly, job growth up, real wages are rising, economic growth is steady. The US economy is in expansion mode, so the existing tariffs have not had any negative impact.

There is some consensus among economists that the new tariffs will have some short term impact on US economic growth, but that will be somewhat offset by a reduction in the trade deficit. Few economists are predicting any real impact from the tariffs on the US long term. Some of the tariffs are strategic in nature and are likely to be permanent such as steel, and will have long term benefits.

I guess we'll see how things play out. I'm really not sure about your statement, yes some sectors will be more affected such as agriculture but overall economists in the US aren't predicting much long term impact.

You still don't get it? We are powerful enough to be a superpower now? We are a net creditor, do you know what that means? We invest more than people invest in us. Stop having this slave mentality, US is not invincible, I know you miss your daddy and want them to come bck to Danang for happy time. This is the difference between Chinese and Viets, We are sovereign and you are still having the slave mentality.

2023? I will bet with you China will grow even more powerful. We were supposed to collapse 30 years bck. Lol

Yeah US economy so STRONK.
They should impose new tariffs immediately, NO GRACE PERIOD.

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-...ease-notice-allows-grace-period-idUSKCN1SF2DV
U.S. Customs agency issues tariff increase notice, allows grace period
The grace period marks a shift from previous rounds of punitive tariffs

US is very STUPID
, why give grace period, since China is "PAYING the TARIFFS".

"Tariffs will bring in FAR MORE wealth to our country than even a phenomenal deal of the traditional kind," Trump said in one of the tweets.
Despite Trump's insistence that China will absorb the cost of the tariffs, U.S. businesses will pay them and likely pass them on to consumers.
