BEIJING: Chinese foreign minister Wang Yi seemed to reassure India that there will be no incursions across the border when he announced on Sunday that the boundary dispute has been "contained".

"The dispute has been contained. At the moment, the boundary negotiation is in the process of building up small positive developments," Wang said at a press conference on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the parliament, the National People's Congress.

Painting a picture of two neighbors striving hard to reach a common goal of border settlement, Wang said, "It is like climbing a mountain and the going is tough because we are on the way up."

"This is all the more reason that we do more to strengthen China-India cooperation so that we can enable and facilitate the settlement of the boundary question," he said.

The foreign minister said China is keen to welcome Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his forthcoming visit to Beijing, which will be in response to invitation extended by Chinese President Xi Jinping during his India visit last year.

"Chinese people believe in reciprocating the courtesy of others. I am sure when Prime Minister Modi visits China later this year, he will be warmly welcomed by the Chinese government and people," he said.

Photographs of Modi and Xi at the Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad last year have had a great impact on the Chinese people, and China wants to forge ahead with the relationship. The Prime Minsiter is expected to visit China before early May.

"Last September, President Xi Jinping made an historic visit to India. Picture of the two leaders working at a spinning wheel in Gujarat, the home state of Prime Minister, has spread far and wide in China," Wang said.

The foreign minister said that "China-India boundary question, a legacy of history. We have worked on it for many years and made some progress in the boundary negotiations".

Citing China's erstwhile top leaders, Deng Xiaoping who was keen on an improved India-China relationship, Wang said, "China is prepared to work with India to implement important agreements reached by our leaders."

"Chinese dragon and Indian elephant should join in a duet to work for the early revitalization of two ancient civilizations, common prosperity of the two emerging markets and amicable coexistence of two large neighbours," he said.

What Happened China? Why such a huge change in tone?

Can anyone enlighten here whats the main resolution strategy is being pursued regarding the McMohan line? Does India have to give up some territory in AP in return of something else like Aksai Chin. I read it somewhere long times back that they wanted the area from McMohan line to be divided in half to both the sides

They know that ther is an A** kicking government in India. They do not want to repeat Chamur incident where they have to find the face saving to go back. Now if they have the guts than they should intrude like what they used to do in MM regime. Give this government 5 years. Chinese shall piss in pant even with an idea of incursion.

Because they dont want a tough enemy in their neighbourhood.US and Japan are their known enemies .Adding India in to that list would be a worst ever stupidity they can make.

Looks like Chinese leaders are absolute saner than Chinese members in PDF.

Agreed. Engaging a strong government is the last thing they want. Moreover, our foreign policy and Act east has been more successful than their's.

I read it somewhere long times back that they wanted the area from McMohan line to be divided in half to both the sides

Personally I want to retain each & every inch of AP if the Chinese want they can take Aksai Chin since they already control all of it

Still waiting for:

60+ apaches
20+ chinooks
1200+ 155/52 arty

Until we build up our capabilities on the border it will be vulnerable. A treaty is just a piece of paper that protects nothing.

LMAO Indians talk about A$$ kicking:rofl:, Wang Yi had stated clearly that The dispute boundary has been contained and not said that we will never do it again. You indian just like to have a false sense of security, if you can comfort yourself with what you said..that's fine with us:rofl:
