China-ASEAN 10+1 defense & security dialogue held

The 2nd China-ASEAN 10+1 Defense and Security Dialogue organized by the Foreign Affairs Office of the Ministry of National Defense of the People’s Republic of China and hosted by the Academy of Military Sciences of the People’s Liberation Army was opened in Beijing on December 12, 2011. A total of 31 delegates from the ten member states of ASEAN and China attended the dialogue.

Themed on “China and ASEAN: Security, Mutual Trust and Cooperation”, the two-day-long dialogue will focus on three special topics, i.e., “New Development of Defense and Security Situation in the Asian-Pacific Region against the Background of Financial Crisis”, “Construction of Mutual Trust Mechanism Between China and ASEAN on the Basis of Security Cooperation between China and ASEAN in the Framework of Regional Multi-Lateral Security Mechanism”, “Pragmatic Cooperation Between China and ASEAN in Non-Traditional Security Fields”.

It is learned that the Chinese delegates will deliver speeches on such topics as “Changes in Contrast of International Forces and Security in Asian-Pacific Region”, “New Change in American Policy Regarding Asian-Pacific Region”, “China’s Outlook upon Security Cooperation with ASEAN”, “Security Cooperation Between China and ASEAN in Regional Security Framework” and “Promotion of Cooperation between China and ASEAN in Non-Traditional Security Fields” and conduct in-depth communication and discussion with fellow attendees to the dialogue.
