National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) of China today (July 20th, 2016) releases the details of the "Mid to Long Term Railway Planning of China" (the plan). According to the plan,
- by end of 2015, China owns 121,000 km rail lines in total, incl. 19,000 km High speed rail lines (HSR)
- by 2020, China expects to have 150,000 km rail lines, incl. 30,000 km HSR lines
- by 2025, China expects to have 175,000 km rail lines, incl. 38,000 km HSR lines
- by 2030, China will have 200,000 km rail lines totally, incl. 45,000 km HSR lines.
To give you a hint about how large China's HSR line is/will be, according to International Union of Railways, by Apr. 1st, 2015, there are in total 29,792 km HSR lines in operation in the world.
