The NSG commando hub at Kolkata will soon be fully operationalised as Home Minsiter P Chidamabaram will inaugurate infrastructure facilities there on September 21.
The 20-acre hub at Badu near the international airport houses a squad of 241 crack commandos for anti-terror and counter-hijack operations for over a year.
The infrastructure facilities at the hub have now been made permanent and it will have full facilities for the commandos stationed here for special operations, NSG Director General Rajan K Medhekar told PTI.
The hub has permanent buildings and commando barracks along with infrastructure for administrative and other works, constructed by the National Buildings Construction Corporation of India (NBCC).
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will also attend the event along with Mr. Chidambaram.
The decision to deploy National Security Guard (NSG) commandos at strategic locations in the country and reduce their strike time for conducting swift anti-terror operations was taken in the aftermath of the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008.
Four NSG hubs have been created in Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai and Kolkata.
