In an interview with the French newspaper Le Figaro, Sergey Chemezov, CEO of Rostec, said that the flight watch of the fifth-generation Russian fighter jet Checkmate will be seven times cheaper than its main competitor, the American F-35.

“Among the fifth-generation single-engine aircraft and aircraft of previous generations, the only major Checkmate competitor, the F-35, can boast similar characteristics. However, unlike the latter, our aircraft is more economical. Let me remind you that the Checkmate flight hour costs seven times less than the F-35,” Chemezov said.

The chief of Rostec said that the main advantages of Checkmate include stealth technology, a modern radar with a phased array antenna, as well as the ability to adapt the aircraft to the needs of a specific customer.

Checkmate will be shown for the first time abroad at the Dubai Airshow 2021 from November 14-18. The prototype of the Sukhoi Su-75 Checkmate was unveiled at the 2021 MAKS Air Show.

During the design work on the prototype, the technologies used in the development of the Su-57 fighter were used. Outwardly, they also look similar. However, flying the Checkmate is expected to be much easier thanks to its single-engine engine.

The aircraft is equipped with the latest avionics and the ability to control small unmanned aerial vehicles. Its weapons will also be placed in a special stone inside the fuselage. The Su-75 can reach speeds of up to 1,900 kilometers (1,180 miles) per hour. Its combat radius is 3000 km.

Checkmate will be established at the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aircraft Plant. Its maiden flight is scheduled for 2023. Serial production is expected to begin in 2025.

Serial production of the Russian Su-75 Checkmate combat aircraft could begin in 2025-2026, Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov said earlier during the Oil and Gas Forum in the western Siberian city of Tyumen.

“As far as I can remember, flight tests will start in 2023, and serial production will start in the event of an order – and we hope there will be an order because this aircraft has a number of features of fifth-generation aircraft ... – it will start in 2025-2026, I think that’s a time frame,” said Borisov. realistic."

In his view, in the event of a delay in the launch of serial production, it will be due to the lack of demand for the Checkmate fighter in the markets dominated by American and Chinese aircraft.

Russia's new single-engine Checkmate fighter has a high export potential in the Latin American, Asian and Middle Eastern markets due to its low costs and high combat effectiveness, Chemezov said earlier in the year.

“Definitely, the Checkmate light attack aircraft has a high export potential,” Chemezov said. The aircraft is capable of solving every task specified by the customer, including the effective destruction of land and sea targets, as well as the fight for air supremacy against numerically superior forces,” noting that the fighter will be of particular interest in the Middle East, the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America.

According to the head of Rostec, the aircraft has stealth, high flight performance and is equipped with advanced avionics. Checkmate also prides itself on its class's large and highly customizable internal weapon bays.

The fighter can carry up to five air-to-air missiles of different ranges and other air weapons. It can also be used as a base for an unmanned aerial vehicle with similar characteristics.

Chemezov noted that the maximum combat load of the new light fighter is 7,400 kilograms (16,314 pounds), while its flight range without external fuel tanks is 2,900 kilometers (1,800 miles).

At the same time, the aircraft has low maintenance costs due to the automated logistics support system, which allows training personnel and planning the delivery of components in advance.

Su-72 looks a good fighter,but serial production start in 2025~2026 while maiden flight start in 2023 is impossible.No one can finish all the test of one 5Gth fighter in 3 years....if russians have such capacity then they will at lest have dozens su-57 in service now.

Some confirmed and some denied..
One thing is for sure.. the UAE has a light 5th generation fighter program with Russia.. This was reported a few years back and confirmed..

I think India is a prospective customer for it. Even if they are reluctant to use it due to the indigenization program , they would like to block the sale to Pakistan. Tejas looks like a WW2 plane in front of this and it also costs half the price of Tejas. I think CAATSA will be the major problem for countries interested in this jet.

India will not sniff this one and Pakistan is not interested either. Pakistan may get one more superior than checkmate TFX in 2030s. Russia will not sell when Su-75 is ready to India in 2030s. The only reason UAE is getting this is because they were part of a collab with Russia and helped develope this.. China will block any sort of sale to India because they have good relations with Putin you can forget about this completely

The reason why they seem to be aggressive with the timing of production of this bird by 2025/2026 is simply because the majority of the major components of that aircraft are components that already exist and are being manufactured for the Su-57. Examples are the wings, same wings as the Su-57. The canted ruddervators are the same canted stabilzers on the Su-57. They've taken those from the Su-57 and used them as all-moving, higher-angled ruddervators and eliminated the need for any horizontal stabilizers, sort of like what Northrop Grumman did with the YF-23. But the panels themselves are the same as the ones used on the Su-57 just applied differently on the Su-75 (Checkmate).

The cockpit is also the same one used on the Su-57. Slides back and forward with the fixed front end. From much of the given information at MAKS 21, the interior, glass cockpit and avionics layout is almost identical as the Su-57 with the exception of a few elements because of slight differences in the design and need for the adjustments required to meet those slight differences. So minor basically.

Take all of those and you already have what, 40% of the aircraft already available in production? Probably much more that we aren't privy to simply because they're sensitive elements. But I would easily assume that much of the FBW system and mechanism that compliment the FBW system are also identical to the Su-57.

So they were very economical and ergonomically cognizant when they designed this aircraft to use all these systems to simplify and expedite the production of this aircraft. This is a standard procedure for the Sukhoi design bureau that they're been using for decades. Best example is the Su-27 which has turned into many newer aircraft from the Su-30 to the Su-35 and all the different sub-models in-between. Even the Su-34. It's essentially the same fuselage as the Su-27/30 with the obvious and visible changes we see such as the radome, access to the cockpit, rear landing gear to accommodate the bomb bays and a few other differences to make it a bomber/fighter.

this aircraft will be cheap so not powerful. even f-15s and f-16s and j-10s will be better

To be honest this fighter looks like the russian designed it in a hurry. Su30 looks alot more better.

@Philip the Arab , one of the prototypes was already delivered by AN-24 to the United Arab Emirate for EDEX getting ready for full display and for all those who were very "weary" and/or couldn't make MAKS 21. This thing, by the time the show is all said and done will have accommodated MANY interested parties and preliminary contracts, one of the very serious ones is actually already the EAF with full ToT. Should be a BLAST to see what transpires and, rumor has it will also be at IDEX.

This thing has already leaped the world tech and a huge reason for the bitches at the US to keep the Russians pinned down with their CAATSA and I hope its destruction starts with Egypt when they give the US the middle finger so that these two aircraft soon revolutionize the world of fighter aviation and put the US back in their place where they belong. The rest are just playing the game without any proof of anything lol.

Look at this thing and if anyone is following what Borislev and co. have been saying as well as Sukhoi, you would be paying serious attention to what the Russians are doing with these two platforms and the Othitnik and not dissing them in anyway.

It will be great for air forces seeking a one-engine fighter instead of heavy two-engine ones that are the mainstay of the Russian Air Force. The main attraction is the 5th generation technology without the 5th generation price tag.

Can't wait to see it in action at the air show.
