I hope it wasn't going to come to this but it has and it was inevitable.

Pakistan officially has hostile nations on both sides of their border. Afghanistan has decided to side with India, chasing that dream that they will be able to claim KPK for themselves. That has always been the dream since 1947 right Afghans?

So what does Pakistan do in the event of a war against either? Both Eastern and Western borders are now exposed.

Would China shore up one of the borders while Pakistan fight the war? What if they don't, than what happens? Do Pakistan go for the nuclear option to subdue a dual attack?

Would Iran stay neutral? Or would they allow Pakistan access to their bases in the event of a war against India? Neutrality is a given if its against Afghanistan.

Right now China is the only true military ally for Pakistan in the region and lets be very thankful for this otherwise they would be 100% screwed.

What is the best way forward?

Firstly there is very little to expect from Bastar**s like in our Government, even other institutions are sleeping.

I think we can do certain measures:-

1) Fence the border no matter what it takes, boot out all Afghanis from Pakistan especially from KPK and Baluchistan.
2) Start pinning down politicians like Achakzai, ANP and other sinister politicians who try to play ethnicity card and strip them off their Pakistani Citizenship and send them to Afghanistan.
3) Declare FATA as a province.
4) Start Re-verification of all CNICs and sniff out fake Afghans.
5) Try to work with Iran regarding these Afghans.

If Afganis officially start creating trouble then the best way would be to start supporting their rival and we know who will win this marathon.

We need to start a country wide campaign creating awareness against this issue as if we are not gonna fix this issue now trust me the repercussion would be devastating for Pakistan.

A war with Afghanistan is not possible. Even a war with India is Highly unlikely. In today's world, only proxy wars are possible. The army knows the threats it faces and will take account of the hostilities.
Afghan Army is itself struggling to stand on its feet so I doubt we have to worry a lot of ANA. Our prime focus is on India and we can hold Afghan threat by our paramilitary forces.

But strategically it is bad to have enemies on both sides of the border. ISI needs to increase its role in india and in afghanistan. There are multiple insurgencies in the afghanistan and in india which need a boost to create trouble for them. Pakistan has the ttp and BLA insurgencies which can be completely destroyed by better integrating FATA and central regions of balochistan into the pakistan. Insurgencies can't develope well enough in the rest of Pakistan because of the indus river system that unites the rest of the country. FATA and balochistan and no river that interconnects it with the rest of pakistan. Only rail and road links will increase commerce and lead to greater connectivity.

Yes it is. But we can not help it. If Afghanistan does not want peace with us, what can we do? We will take all necessary measures mostly away from public knowledge to neutralize the threats. BLA and TTP have seen their days and are now being completely finished in IBOs and Op ZarbeAzb.
FATA has been cleared from militants and now the development is being done. We have learned from our past mistakes and will try our best not to repeat them.
I am convinced that Afghanistan is not a huge threat to us.

Afghanistan alone is not a threat thanks to the rugged border which provides excellent defence against an invading force, but if it forms a military alliance with india. This would provide india with strategic depth. Which should be unacceptable to pakistan.

Fence the border and manage it as effectively as possible. Use surveillance drones, mine volatile areas and use all other means possible. Militarize the Afghan border and answer immediately to any misadventure. Greatly restrict movement from the Afghan side into Pakistan. Entirely close the border when crap hits the fan. Repatriate millions of Afghans back to their homeland.

Additionally, keep removing TTP scourge and other rouge elements within Balochistan and elsewhere. We are winning this battle and Zarb-e-Azb is a great example.

Once we get these things in order, the threat will be greatly diminished and things would become more manageable.

Afghanistan is a hostile country even without US or Indian presence. Let's make no mistake about this. History doesn't lie.
