Chang’e-5 Reentry - Chinese spacecraft Earth return with precious moon rock sample, beautiful tail against the night sky

Landing on the moon, getting moon rock samples and returning, China is the first country having 3 feats done in one shot successfully in the first try.

So does this mean they have the capability to put men on the moon? When will they do that?

I think that is not that critical. I hope they do a Mars sample return. That will be world first.

Get a monkey on the moon and back safe in 2021-22. And a man to do what the monkey (land and back) did in 2023-24. Then a man to walk on the moon in 2025. First feats for China. :china:

You don't send a man where the monkey did not go, to test the safety of the trip. This is basic space flight knowledge 101.

You have to see if the monkey can survive the Van Allen Belts.

Van Allen radiation section can be passed very quickly at the speed craft travels. Some basic radiation insulation can be enough. It is about dosage and how long the exposure is. I think even though Van Allen Belts is intense radiation with very high dosage, 10 minutes under it is acceptable for human in such important mission. NASA Apollo missions only used such little radiation protection but nowadays the alertness is high for health so maybe they will put some Pb shields in higher thickness. But to be honest I think it is not such a threat especially when the path is calculated for least exposure like Apollo missions.
