Chandrayaan 2 launch: How Puri Shankaracharya helped ISRO scientists

Bhubaneswar: Did you know that Puri Shankaracharya Nischalananda Saraswati’s Vedic mathematics significantly contributed to the recent lunar mission by India – Chandrayaan 2?

It was a historic day for India’s space programme when it became the fourth country in the world to send an exploration mission to the Moon just a week ago and the contribution of thousands of scientists to make the Rs 800-crore lunar mission a success, will always be remembered.

Sources said, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) had invited the Puri Seer to the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota where he presented his valuable knowledge on Vedic mathematics to be used for the launch of the Chandrayaan-2.

Detailing about his visit to the space agency, Shankaracharya’s Govardhan Peeth Public Relations Officer, Manoj Ratha said “Guru Nischalananda met the ISRO scientists to implement theorems and calculations enumerated in Vedic treatises like Puranas & Bhagwad Gita to achieve success in the mission as India was a pioneer in mathematics, astronomy, missile technology thousands of years ago.

According to reports, Nischalananda Saraswati is not just a spiritual guru but an expert Vedic mathematician as well. Being the 145th Shankaracharya, he is following on the footsteps of his great predecessor, the 143rd Shankaracharya Bharat Krishna Tirtha, who was renowned all over the world as a pioneer in the ancient Vedic mathematics.

“After years of research, Nischalananda Saraswati has penned 11 famous books to enrich the Vedic mathematics even more. He has enumerated how the assumption that zero is a null or void number is leading to all kinds of disorder. Inspired by his works, experts from all over the world seek his advice and suggestions on mathematical research,” said Govardhan Peeth PRO, Manoj Ratha.

Bring Baba Ram Rahim and Asaram in to mix too... Ajeeb ch*tiya log hain..

.
There is no such thing as vedic mathematics. Math is just math. And calculation for going to the moon are not so complicated. The US did it in 60s and that too with Newtonian equations, which are not that accurate. Why u indians try to stupidify everything?

Err... Few simple things. As someone here mentioned, US went to the moon using a computer with computing speed less than that of original Nintendo game console. I don't know what kind of calculations these guys were doing.

True.
It's just a spin to give some name by a stupid journo.

Well I dont know if the news is true but Vedic Mathematics is a true thing and its been taught in a various schools across India, not necessarily through religious angle but the technique that was evolved to solve complex arithmetical problems during Vedic ages.

Till 10th Century its was only Greek and Indian mathematics written by people like Archimedes , Apollonius, Brahmagupta and Aryabhata and then we had Persian gurus such as Al-Khwarizmi and so on.

Till 10th Century its was only Greek and Indian mathematics written by people like Archimedes , Apollonius, Brahmagupta and Aryabhata and then we had Persian gurus such as Al-Khwarizmi and so on.

Al-Khwarizmi was not a "guru" but a student of Hindu Mathematics.

His claim to fame is his book "Sind hind zij" on astronomy which was a persian translation of Hindu astronomical works.

He in fact was also a student of Indian Astrology and wrote the horoscope of various personalities of that time.

Of course he is more famously know for introducing Hindu numerical into the M.E from where it went to Europe. Same with his translation of Indian mathematics now famed as "Al-Gebra".

Modern "Geometry" measures the circle in 360 degrees because in the Rg Veda the Savana Year was 360 days. It first defines the “Ēkam chakram” with the 360 spokes, marking each sector of Space.

Astronomy was pretty precise right form the days of the Vedas.

From the Yajur Veda in 2400BCE the length of the year was somewhere between 365 & 366

In the Lagadha from 1370 BCE , the year was 366 days for civil use!

In Kautilya from 300BCE , the Correction month was added every 2.5 years

Surya Siddhanta from 200AD says the year is 365.2588 days long.

Aryabhata calculated that the solar year is 365.2585 days long.

Modern sidereal year is today defined as 365.25636 days long.

That is how precise Vedic mathematics was. Same is true for the measurement of the moon, its distance and speed.
