Chabahar Rail to Central Asia, Afghanistan, a Priority: Minister

I wish there was some way in which they could involve Sreedharan in this project, even in an honorary capacity.
E sreedharan is happily retired. He was literally coaxed to stay back in advisory role in different metros after his Delhi stint. He has made it clear he is done. He should be honored with and Engineering award named after him.

You do realize India has invested billions in Chabahar right? And INSTC is a joint project initially conceived by Russia, Iran, and India. India HAS invested in rail construction.

Billions? mere few hundred millions.

And given the proximity of ports in Maharashtra and Gujarat to Iran, we can export more goods by ship then by rail. Going through Pakistan through Iran is the same distance as going by sea except that trains cannot carry as much as ships. There is a reason most trade occurs at sea. This project is basically to link Russia and the landlocked CA republics to a permanent warm-water port in iran which in turn connects them to the Middle East and India. True win win situation.

Good luck, you completely avoided the point, one route where you can load train and travel to Europe directly, one route where you have to load, unload, reload all this cost money as well. anyways Pakistan is not going to open so we are just wasting time here.

Pakistan have railway link with Iran as well. Now to avoid Pakistan, Indians have to load their goods in India, unload in Iranian port and then they have to make journey ahead. headache for exporters and time consuming as well. in case if Pakistan open its route, India just have to send its train all the way to Europe.
honestly that rail road need serious maintenance , its the oldest rail road in both Pakistan and Iran and the least maintained . it wont ever worth spent money on it for maintenance , the best option her is to install a new rail road from scratch , or better connect Chabahar to Gwadar with a new railroad.

and no even if you guys open your route , England really destroyed the chance of that by not using standard gauge for your country rail road

@Cobra Arbok

Bro, currently I'm in a state of complete shock... India is thumping its chest with a bloody nose...

We are redefining "muhtod jawab", "cheda toh chodenge nahi"... killer instinct is completely missing...

With a stance like this... I feel that taxpayers money is getting wasted in Afghanistan...

(MENAFN - Daily Outlook Afghanistan) Chabahar - Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development says the rail, air and road routes connecting Chabahar port to Afghanistan and then Central Asia which will facilitate transportation of goods and passengers is a top priority for his ministry.
In an International Conference on the Development of the Chabahar Port here on Tuesday, Mohammad Eslami putlined the economic and transit capacities of the port.
He noted that the railway link from Chabahar to Afghanistan and from there to Central Asia as well as another one connecting China to Europe via Iran were among the main programs in Iran's future railway network development plans.
The official said that the transit route of Afghanistan and Central Asia via the eastern border of the country will significantly shorten the Chabahar-Afghanistan distance.
The Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development added that widespread investment in various transportation sectors, especially in the port, sea and customs transit projects and infrastructure along with stong government support has made the Chabahar port a regional transit hub between India and Afghanistan.
He said the removal of some existing obstacles and progress of the development plans will lead to a transit boom in this direction.
Eslami noted that a new chapter in the life of the Chabahar Port which includes players at national, regional and international levels will prompt the comprehensive development of the deprived region it is located in. (IRNA

The real issue is gauge, i think our Govt should look for this especially the route with China and Central Asia..

to be honest , changing all the rail road infra structure is too expensive an not necessary ,but something I dont get is why when you guys built new railroad for CPEC didn't use standard Gauge that China use and by doing so you could get direct rail road connection to Europe and rest of Middle east!?

.
How exactly are you going too build a railway line too Iran by bypassing pakistan???
