DHAKA: The authorities of visa processing of Canada have closed all three visa offices in Bangladesh with effect from April 30.

The Canadian visa for Bangladeshi people will be issued from Canadian High Commission in Singapore from now on.

In order to get visa, Bangladeshi people have to apply through private organization ‘VFS’ in Dhaka, Sylhet and Chittagong.

A high official of Canadian high commission in Dhaka confirmed the matter to banglanews on Wednesday evening.

Mentioning that the Canadian government office on immigration affairs, Citizen and Immigration Canada took the decision, he said, “The Canadian government basically took the decision in order to cut cost.”

Apart from Bangladesh, the visa offices in Berlin, Kuala Lumpur and Tokyo have already been shut down, said the official.

He said, “However, the people who have applied for the visa before April 30, could collect it from Bangladesh.”

The official added: “From now on, Bangladeshi passport holders will be issued visa from Canadian High Commission in Singapore.”

He said, “The Bangladeshi visa applicants have to apply for visa through VFS. They will not face any problem in getting visa through the new process.”

The official also informed that the VFS agents will send all related documents to visa office in Singapore after initial verification.

If the high commission feels the need of interviewing any applicant, they will complete the full proceedings through VFS and the applicant can pay the visa fees through the same process, the official added.

They haven't closed their embassy or consulate, just the visa office, privatized their visa services. Here in Sydney Indian consulate closed its visa office too, and the same company VFS handles all the visa applications for India.

.
They have been refusing to give visas to Pakistanis and Indians as well.
I wouldn't be surprised if Bangladesh is next...
We have a stupid Conservative government who wishes to take people from Europe and Australia instead.

Not sure ... but this is a bad development. This will also increase the processing time. In recent years the visa application was consistently increasing as more people are interested to go to Canada for higher studies then Australia or UK. USA is a second choice though. As there are no other office in Bangladesh Canada could reconsider the decision.

But lots of Bangladeshi, Indian and Pakistani students come here in Canada. Yes I heard that refusing rate has increased recently. Now even getting visa for USA is much easier.

Last year in my university, i had a Pakistani friend who came from Pakistan. 1 whole semester passed by the time he arrived....
Basically all in all, he waited for more than half a year just for a student Visa!

Thats terrible. In BD they used to process everything in 3 weeks including medical test.

But if the move everything to singapore it will increase to 2-3 month for sure and TRV for 1-2 month whereas it was 1 week in BD.

:lol:Stephen Harper is bricking it. This country taxes you for anything...you park your car wrong..you pay a fine...you smoke weed...you pay the fine...you kill a person...thats right...pay fine....socialist pigs..even through such socialism these idiots cannot keep a bloody visa office open in freaking bangladesh. Saddest part is the canadian embassy in bangladesh is right next to the american embassy and it is huge with a canadian club that has every kind of amnesties....paid by the canadian tax payer's money...such a big embassy and it doesnt even issue a freaking visa.....What a waste! screw you canada! and screw you harper!

Visa delays will impact foreign students, schools fear

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/british-columbia/story/2012/05/03/bc-visa-delays-students.html

CBC News Posted: May 3, 2012 9:52 AM PT Last Updated: May 3, 2012 9:03 PM PT

Visa delay concerns1:57RAW | Visa impact3:47
The federal government's recent decision to stop processing visas at some embassies will impact the number of foreign students coming to Canada to study, according to some schools

Visa services in Canadian embassies in Germany, Japan, Iran, Malaysia and Bangladesh were shuttered earlier this week and applications will now be shipped to other countries for processing.

Applications from Japan, for example, will now be processed in Manila in the Philippines instead.

Brent Poole, the president of the Canadian Association of Public Schools International, says the changes have caught the industry completely by surprise.

"We were blindsided by it," said Poole on Wednesday.

Poole says the closures will turn a two-week wait for visa in those countries into a 13-week wait, and worries many time-pressed students looking for working holiday and student visas may choose to go to other countries instead.

"Teaching English is very competitive. England, the United States and Australia are all trying to attract the same students. Delays in getting people to Canada won't help," he said.

"Fourteen days to get study permit to go to Australia, 13 weeks to go to Canada — that's going to impact on their decision, which is going to impact on our numbers."

Students echo concerns
Poole says foreign students contribute $6.5 billion a year to the Canadian economy, and more than $1.5 billion in B.C. alone, and the delays would impact more than classroom numbers.

Not only will Canada will miss out on that revenue, and the value of being exposed to their culture, many students who study here apply to become citizens and keep on contributing to the country as a whole, Poole says.

"We do have students who decide they like it here and stay, and immigrate to Canada, and it brings a lot of revenue, and every student we lose is lost revenue."

Almost everyone working at Vancouver's Ebi-Ten restaurant is on a working holiday visa from Japan. Yuri Yonesu says a 13-week wait for a visa would have affected his decision to come to Canada.

"You can't just wait for two months, you know, doing nothing," said Yonesu.

Kazuyo Sato agrees many foreign students don't have the time to wait 13 weeks for a visa and will head elsewhere instead.

"If I have no time to prepare, yeah, I would hesitate to come to Canada if I take 13 or more."

There is difference between thinking and facts mate. I would love to see some figures. Several friends of mine got rejected. But if I talk about Bangladesh, now a days getting a US VISA is easier than Indian or now we will come to say Canadian VISA. Lol....

Couple of year around 2008-9 4000 Indian student got visa where a vast majority got rejected. Canada and Australia has the toughest screening process while issuing visa. So showing sponsor's tax statement for the last 2 year is must. Let the delusional Indians remain in their dream land. The big point is that student from Punjub produce most fake documents from where this Mirza Jatt belong so undergone most extreme screening in India.

Regarding Bangladesh - USA to provide 20000 student visa for Bangladeshi students a year.

20,000 Bangladeshi students to get scope for edn in US a year

20,000 Bangladeshi students to get scope for edn in US a year
Says US Under Secretary Judith A Mchale

From Bangladesh close to 1000 students or even more get Canadian student visa... A higher ratio then India. If the figure for USA reach 20000 then it will also be a higher ratio then Indian.
