What's new

Canada's Sikh community in government.

It's too late. The genie is out of the bottle. Hinduism has never been a united or unitary religion. Due to the democratic nature of the religion to encourage freedom of thought, it has always been producing new thoughts and religions like Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Buddism, Jainism, Sikhism. Even the recent followers of Sai baba do not consider themselves as Hindus and only go to sai baba temples.

There was only one instance where the genie was put back into the bottle by Adi Sankhara when he brought back people following Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Buddism (majority) back into the fold of modern form of Hinduism.

That is ridiculous, pretty much all Sai baba followers call themselves Hindus unless of-course they are muslims.

Sikhism of Guru Nanak itself was a offshoot of Vishnavism which later on added Shiva, Vishnu, the Sun, goddess Durga, and Ganesh worship.

Guru Nanak's own son Srichandra was a Naga Sadhu and he founded the Udasin sanyasi. A divergence into Shiva worship.

There is reason why Sikhism is based on Vaishavism.

Vaishnavism believes in strict discipline and rules. Hence Hindus say that it is very difficult to please Vishnu. This is for people who are organized and who would like to live in societies. This is akin to following strict formal dress code when you go to work.

On the other hand , Saivism is based on simplicity. This was followed by people who were not organized and who cannot/do not want to follow the rules and procedures. Shiva is easy to please. This is akin to going to work in jeans or bermudas.

Shakti represents power which is key for any military force.

Buddhism is very different from Hinduism but Hinduism later influenced Buddhism in SL and Hinduism assimilated Buddhism in India.
Buddhism teaches to refrain from ALL meat not just beef. Hindus refrain from eating beef because its holy in religion while buddhist refrain from eating it due to it being a living thing and such actions could result in being reborn as an animal in the next life and get eaten by another animal or humans
I know many people who don't eat cake because eggs are used

Sikhism is based on Vaishnavism because Guru Nanak was a Vaishnav.

Below is the picture of the original hand written Pothi by NanakDevji, a Shaligram dedicated to Lord Vishnu & mala & padam belonging to Guru nanak.

a Shaligram is used specifically to worship lord Maha Vishnu

The book says" haathh charriou har saalagiraam || "

Translate: I hold in my hands the Saalagraam of the Lord.

Now compare this to a Vaishnava Saint,

If that was not enough Guru Nanak travelled all the way to Calcutta to meet the famous Vaishnava saint Sri Chaitanya swami.

I hope you know Buddha was a HINDU :P ..... and he went to Banaras to learn Hinduism sankhya philosophy which is the foundation of Buddhist philosophy.

Hinduism teaches one to refrain from ALL meat too, not just beef. Same principle as Buddhism, only buddhism practice takes it from Hinduism :P

In India we get Egg less cakes, you know why ? Guess.

According to research it takes 3 generations for an immigrant to loose ones language, culture and religion.

The issue is once a new thought has been propagated, the initial generations of the Hindus who followed that thought may consider themselves as Hindus but three generations later you would end up with a new religion.

That's exactly what I was alluding to in my earlier post on Sai baba as I have already seen that happening. You may say that Sai Baba lived and spread his message in 1800s and still many of the followers of Sai baba claim themselves as Hindus. This is due to the fact Sai Baba worship was not so popular until 3 decades ago. It's a very recent phenomenon. By the turn of this century you would surely see a new religion called Sai Babaism.

This was the same case with Buddism too. Gautama Buddha gave his thoughts around 500 BC but it did not spread until Ashoka who institutionalized and spread the message around 300 BC. It had support of the Kings until 600 AD when Adi Shankara spread the message of unity of all the Hindu thoughts under one umbrella. But he could not achieve the same outside of modern day India as Hindu empires were already on the decline. This resulted in Hinduism being limited to India while Buddhism continued in many countries outside India.

It does not matter what we Hindus think. what matters is what a Sikh or Jain or Buddhist or a Sai Baba follower thinks.

Read my post below

Canada's Sikh Cabinet | Page 3

It's a tragedy of Hindusim which gives it's followers the liberty and freedom of thought, ends up doing more harm to itself. This situation is akin to the children disowning their parents.

BTW I am Hindu and do not consume egg either and my wife makes wonderful eggless cakes to celebrate birthdays in the Family here in US. Actually many years ago when my parents were looking for my marriage proposals the only criteria that I had was that the girl needs to be a total vegetarian including non-consumption of eggs.
