Canada breaks record by welcoming over 400,000 immigrants in 2021

Canada unfurled the welcome mat to a record number of immigrants this year — the highest in its 154-year history.

Canadian authorities welcomed 401,000 permanent residents, the federal government announced Thursday, topping a record set in 1913 when 400,000 immigrants were granted the right to live in the country, according to a report. Permanent residents can apply for social benefits in the country but cannot vote in federal elections.

“Last year, we set an ambitious goal. Today, we achieved it,” Canada’s Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Minister Sean Fraser said in a statement. “This is a historic moment for our country, as we welcome the highest number of newcomers in one year in our history.”

Although the new figure was not broken down by specific countries, the new immigrants hailed from China, Nigeria, Iran, Turkey and the US, among others.

Immigrants who arrived during World War I were mainly from the United Kingdom and Europe.

Immigration to the country counts for 100 percent of its labor force growth, and by 2036, newcomers will account for 30 percent of the Canadian population of just over 38 million, Fraser said.

One in three Canadian businesses is owned by an immigrant, and one in four of the newcomers work in health care, he said.

Canada is a good place to get a higher education. That I have to say.
I have met a lot of Chinese people from Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Taiwan as well.
I have also met quite a few Sikhs as well from East (Indian) Punjab.

I should elaborate.

I meant in the sense, that this government is so incapable of doing anything it's only method of achieving economic growth is to just increase the population pool. Without it, the country falls into recession, and will be destroyed by it's massive debt payments that have been getting worse and worse. They can't stimulate growth either by lowering interest rates because the rates are already at record lows. Just highlighting the vulnerability, I don't expect things to be easier in the country in the next 20 years but worse.

I cant believe this number!

There are so many hurdles in immigrating to Canada. Even those people who have good experience in IT, cant get the points required by the application. If there is a job offer from Canada, only then the points cross the minimum required. Getting a job offer from Canada is next to impossible as there are so many immigrants here already.

I know this as I tried for my sister and then for her son. Both dont qualify. But my nephew is doing his IT work and does work for several foreign clients. Even he does not make the cut.

Those intelligent and educated ppl are abused because they dont have Canadian experience. They are forced to drive uber , taxis or work at stores. Canada needs educated labor they dont give fk about immigrants , their concern are the children of immigrants the ones who will assimilate. Immigration to Canada is a trap.

I don't think the majority of people accepted are skilled workers. It seems like a lottery to me. if you are not a skilled worker, then you work minimum wage jobs or work in Uber etc.. as you say. I know lots of children of immigrants, and It is a daily grind, but I think perhaps the hope is that the kids become educated and become skilled workers. Then the skilled workers usually find out they can make more money in the USA.

They use us immigrants for labor.Immigrant children end up with better jobs because nw they are Real Canadians.
