If BNP-Jamaat alliance comes in government tomorrow can Bangladesh be a sovereign nation ever? Just yes or no.

I wish Bangladesh had West Bengal and Assam. So that we could have a strong position in the subcontinent. Anyways, we are already in millions in West Bengal and Assam. So that dream is not far behind.

It's not possible as long as you have India as your neighbor, they will never let you be sovereign :D and it does not matter coz I can see in fore see-able future Bangladesh will merge with Indian or at least their population :D

Sovereignty needs strong economy, a reasonable military, good internal governance, good international networking through diplomacy which also needs funds .. to name a few.

So long as BD posters keep lamenting on what they do not have and keep day dreaming of acquiring the moon they will never become sovereign in the real sense of the word.

It does not matter whose Govt come to power, the fundamentals of a nation count.

In paper yes but in reality

no. India plays a huge role in everything in BD.
When you say "everything", you're wrong........if you can see through the Jaamati/BNP propaganda you'll find that India does not interfere in your internal affairs at all(we have enough problems of our own)......
India has good trade relations with Bangladesh.....if you call that interfering then, acc. to your logic, so many countries all over the world with good trade relations with each other are interfering in each others matter as well.....if you think so, you can cut off all trade links with India....you're free to do that.....and that indicates you are a sovereign country.

Its not about interfering in internal matters. Its about Indian dominance in every sector. In garment sector lot of Indians are working alongside Bangladeshis. In entertaiment, 95% TV channels are Indians. If one dares to stop a single Indian channel Bangladeshis esp. women start protesting. BNP tried to turn off some channels but within 2 days they had to lift the bar due to mass protest. Now Bollywood is open in BD halls because of local films have no takers. Everything in Bangladesh is India.

@IamBengali you have a good point. I agree that Bangladesh can never be a fully sovereign country, but very few countries in the world are, except for regional and great powers, most of whom happen to be also very large nations.

So the destiny of Bangladesh is to be a vassal state.

From 1204 to 1757, we were either a full part of Delhi Sultanate or Mughal empire, or a vassal of those two entities. There were some periods of independence, but it did not last.

From 1757 to 1947, we were either de facto or de jure part of the British empire.

From 1947 to 1971, we were a part but more like a vassal of (West) Pakistan.

From 1971 to today, during Awami rule we were a vassal of India, at other times we were relatively more independent.

For future, there is no better option for Bangladesh than to become a full on vassal of China and form military alliance with China. To remain and become a vassal of a screwed up incompetent country like India is a bad choice that no Bangladeshi will accept, because that will mean Bangladesh will remain poor and underdeveloped. And everyone looks for their personal interest and future prospect first, so I maintain, all Bangladeshi people will choose to be a vassal of China, rather than a vassal of India.

Good point there if your destiny is to be a vassal state why not be of a Greater power "China" instead of India :P

LOL......you need to learn the meaning of sovereignty.
If, Indians doing business in Bangladesh, Bangladeshi women's preference of Indian cinema etc means attacking your sovereignty then let me tell you it's a two way process.....Bangladesh is also benefiting in the process.....those businessmen are creating JOBS in your country, decreasing the unemployment rate, contributing positively in your economy by adding to your GDP.......and those Indian channels are giving you entertainment......if you don't want, build your own entertainment industry amidst stiff Indian competition.
Be a sport and accept competition, in this era of 'GLOBAL ECONOMY', no country is exempt from competition.....

You are getting it, quite simple logic, if you think about it.

Its good that you like globalization and competition, we just want to make sure that we have a level playing field and Chinese have as much of an entry in this economy as the Indians have.

If our economy is more tied with China than India, I would not mind a few Bollywood films making small change in our market, if that is what people prefer. It is FREE market as they say, spoils go to the victor.

Good riddance to bad rubbish, actually
In fact, it would be nice to see you guys begging and licking the Chinese boots. Already, Chinese mills have shifted capital into Bangladesh as labor in China is rising and lot of Chinese ownerships are investing in Bangladesh. And You guys can beg for water from China too. Perhaps a direct via satellite water link !

The problem is YOU Bangaldeshis. Your banks are one of the worst governed, full of inept, corrupt officials. Trade LCs are never honored, never accepted in a timeframe that international banking norms allow for. Payments from your Bangladeshi banks to any international suppliers come 6 months - 12+ months late. Your port authority is so corrupt that to get berths for ships, (go ask any maritime captain or port official from international shipping firms), you need to pay bakshish ! God (Your Allah) knows how many other systems are so skewed by your own making. Your entire system is crooked to an extent that without pusing a penny, work never gets done. Ask any Chinese garment manufacturing investor and then come back with your rants.

Please take Mamta the rabble rouser, but leave West Bengal alone! :cheesy:

We are free to lick whatever boot that serves our interest. Sorry if that makes you feel bad. As for Indian water terrorism, continue as you are doing, you will see the result.

And your irrelevant rant about banking and other inefficiency is all thanks to incompetence of Indian puppet Hasina didi ruling Bangladesh for the last 7 years. Even after these obstacles our economy is still growing and our hunger/nutritional index is already better than India. We need Chinese boot in Bangladesh precisely to remove the inefficient people who like to lick Indian boot, so we can follow Chinese model of efficiency and growth.
