Callous rhetoric “Poor of Bangladesh still go hungry so they cross over to India”: Amit Shah’s ‘anti-Bangladeshi card’ can jeopardize ties

Personally I thought that these RSS/BJP goons will keep their hatred of Bangladesh hidden for a while...to keep BD pacified disguising it as "friendship"...keeping BD away from going into China's camp.
...guess I overestimated @Avicenna

You and I both know the reality of things.

Despite all the noise, Bangladesh and Pakistan have a COMMON enemy.

Full stop.

It is more a hatred of Muslims...which has been simmering on a slow burn(rearing it's head every now and then) since before partition. Hence why the animosity with BD/Pak(out in the open with Pak and hidden with BD). Indian Muslims also are on the receiving end of it...there too, it is often masked/hidden...but it comes out from time to time. IMO as more and more right wing RSS/VHP types of elements gain momentum...
...the more of this split will come out in the open.

Indian Muslims aren't friends of Pak or BD in any way, shape or form.

If Indians are truly our enemies then Indian Muslims get no passes either, even more so, they're the first ones to talk us down to prove their 'credentials'.

Indian muslims and hinduvta ( not including the kasmiris) deserve each other. Only a decade ago they were looking down on the muslim of PAK and BD for separating from India and being communal. Pretending how they are so much better educated and civilized .

They made their Bed. Now they can lie in it.

Shame. They chose nationalism over deen

It's not about nationalism going against the Deen, it's about standing up for what's right and not looking down on others...

But alas, what's done is done, they've sealed their own fate.

Thank the powers that be for Bangladesh, we're free here.

To state again the obvious, I feel that Indian Govt. attitudes toward minorities (non-Dharmic ones and Muslims especially) are at a yawning gulf these days compared to that of say, Bangladesh.

We in Bangladesh cosset our minorities (especially Hindus), giving them quota protection in jobs, education. Hindus are employed in govt. in far exceeding numbers than their ratio of population would imply, and thanks to Hasina, those are quite senior positions, especially in public law enforcement (with all the "wealth perquisites" that come with it).

Whereas in India, most Muslims are lucky if they will be "allowed" to survive in marginal poverty. They not only cannot hope for any special treatment as minorities to level the playing field with majority Hindus - they have to go by restrictions imposed by Hindutvas, which are often draconian and unprecedented compared to any other nation.

But we are talking about India of course, which at its core, is essentially a third world nation, populated in the most part with people of narrow-minded and backward psyche, and worse than Bangladesh in many respects.

I still feel that there are sections of Indian Muslims (talented ones like @jamahir bhai) deserve a place in our soil (or in Pakistan). We must give them a preference to migrate to our country compared to Indian Muslims who publicly show their allegiance to India.

This is an opportunity to fill our talent ranks with some Indian Muslims who deserve a better lot - than they are getting in India.

Not really, that's almost patronising in a way, I wasn't speaking of people like jamahir, he's a smart guy, such people can get by anywhere, also he isn't one to malign others to begin with.

Smart Indian Muslims who know how the world works and don't go around bashing others to prove their patriotism are great people, those who piss on others to prove themselves aren't and the latter group of people can go kick rocks for all I care.

Similarly, among Indians, Hindus, Christians and Muslims alike, there are many decent folk, who want nothing but for us all to get along.. so while I don't say this often, it should be noted that my problem is not with those Indians, it's with the toxic ramble who call themselves Indian while going against the Indian Constitution itself.

Funny you don't have half these things to say about China. Looks like your pro-muslim sentimentality exists only as long as people don't open concentration camps.

Bakwas Karne se pehle post padh liya Karo.

Well, why do they cross over to India then? why?

Well, they have to go back to from whence they came, don't they ?

Indian citizens will be expelled to India through the border one by one, you're powerless.

Although Indians want to pretend to be "friends" of Muslims. Then try to use "western traditional culture and skills" such as concentration camp to understand China. But India still treats Muslims coldly.

India has not made any contribution to the development of Kashmir. Foreign media are not even allowed to visit Kashmir.

India remains silent on the mass murder of Muslims by Western troops.

India even accused some Muslim countries of "supporting terrorism" in UN. Then India supports US to use "anti terrorist" to kill Muslims.

even when the Australian army slaughtered Afghan children. India remains silent. or do Indians think there are no Muslims in Afghanistan?

probably… All India's courage is shown only in South Asia.

Well Bangladesh and China don't share any common history...Bangladeshis in general are as indifferent to what happens to muslims in China as they are towards Somalia...On the other hand India,Pakistan and Bangladesh have had some degree of relevance in each other's internal politics since the inception of our countries. We are not like other countries of the world that treat their neighbors as neighbors. We have been and will continue to treat each other like we live under the same roof. Pakistan and Bangladesh will keep blaming India for a lot of their woes and India will keep blaming Bangladesh and Pakistan for its woes. Bangladeshis and Pakistanis commenting on Muslims in India or Indians commenting Hindus in Bangladesh and Pakistan are not a reflection of the Muslim Ummah or Hindu brotherhood but of our common history.

Fear psychosis: Amit Shah’s anti-Bangladeshi pitch won’t help domestic politics or foreign policy

September 24, 2018, 7:48 PM IST TOI Edit in TOI Editorials, Edit Page, India, World, TOI

BJP won the 2014 general elections on the back of a positive message of hope and inclusive development. And, in the run up to 2019 general elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dedication of the Ayushman Bharat scheme to the nation, and statement that the health cover scheme transcends caste or community, is also along these lines. However BJP president Amit Shah, who has characterised migrants as “infiltrators” who are “termites”, has struck a contrary note by invoking a politics of fear and paranoia.

Shah asserted, extraordinarily, that several crore “infiltrators” have entered the country and that after winning the 2019 polls BJP would identify each and every one of them. Shah’s repeated statements around this theme suggest that BJP plans to make the ‘illegal Bangladeshi’ the Enemy No.1 and whip up passions around this issue. Shah’s negative tactic elicits comparison with Trump’s characterisation of Mexicans as “rapists” in the US. If the idea here is to appeal to the “base” of BJP’s electoral support, then it’s worth noting that Trump’s current popularity is declining and a strategy of appealing only to the “base” is yielding diminishing returns. The core vote alone won’t be enough for BJP in 2019.

Besides, Shah’s tirade against illegal infiltrators risks being exposed as a gimmick and ruining relations with Bangladesh. Although there’s no proof that crores of illegal Bangladeshis reside in India, even if one takes Shah’s statements at face value there is still the question of what is to be done with these people. India isn’t China in that they can’t all be herded into vast detention camps – it does have a democratic Constitution. Nor does Bangladesh recognise large scale migration to India after 1972; it is hardly likely to take back anyone India chooses to deport. These are stubborn realities that cannot be conjured away.

In fact, Shah’s termite comment has already attracted Dhaka’s ire with the latter describing it as an unfortunate remark. Bangladesh is perhaps the only country in the neighbourhood today that has excellent relations with India. Credit for this goes to the Awami League dispensation in Dhaka. But if BJP continues with its anti-Bangladeshi tirade it will harm the Awami at upcoming polls in Bangladesh and put the future of India-Bangladesh ties in doubt. A witch hunt for enemies “within” is not going to help either domestic politics or foreign policy. Its outcome can only be a self-goal for BJP.

As I said, India has unofficially declared war on BD..
