Original post is lot more confusing then the issue. Hip IN Pakistan as far as I know is US-based that does promotion more than reporting, and is trying to deviate from the real issue. There is abit of misinformation.
All Cable operators or what I would call cable mafia as shut down its services in parts of Pakistan barring Quetta till midnight. It is a blackmail ploy to punish the consumers who in return demand the govt. to continue the crappy servicefrom this cable mafia.
The issue is basically DTH license auction on 23rd Nov. to introduce DTH into Pakistan, which is the last nation to get dth compared to others in the region.
I've repeated previously also the reason why Pakistan does'nt have DTH was the illegal indian DTH/Pak channels/cable mafia nexus, they continued to blackmail Pak govt.s going back since 2005.
1. The rating system and other technology associated with it which gave earnings to the cable mafia.
2. On all the indian channels that cable mafia had on air it used to post their local ads in betweeen the commercial breaks, from which they again earned huge business
3. Cable mafia has on record thrice promised the govt. to introduce digital technology and backed off giving consumer poor service, bad reception of the channels and forced ads on their in-house channels.
4. DTH although expensive than analogue cable will be much more professional with zero or few ads, uninterrupted service unlike cable mafia which shuts down if their is a power cut in the area, digital technology, better picture, reception, features which the cable mafia won't give.
ITs PEMRA not Pakistan govt., that enforced ban on indian content and it has had success on public sales and viewing but they can't raid into private homes, which are negligible compared to public viewing.
Pemra was'nt able to regulate and had to depend upon cable mafia who had full control on illegal indian dth viewership.
DTH technology is something that been denied to the Pakistani public and its actually pretty late that the Pakistani consumer finally gets it.
Cable mafia has in a way destroyed its own case today by punishing its own consumers, and force Pemra to submit to their demands. Pakistani consumers have the right to make their choice anyhow it has'nt effected many as ppl already using the internet to watch programs. My family was really happy and spend most of the time together without news channels it was actually a pleasant evening. Last but not the least no one needs to get people confused on india-pakistan problems, there are Pakistanis dying daily like today where indian shelled pakistani civilian homes on the LOC, border all of it being done killing peole just to provoke Pakistan army to snap. Any Pakistani would not be confused when Pakistani lives are concerned don't know about American-based people.
